This could be the perfect opportunity for an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician looking for their next challenge or a Rotational Pharmacy Technician looking to expand their horizons and gain experience at a higher level within the dispensary area.

The successful candidate will demonstrate dynamism and commitment and be valued as a team player whilst assisting the Specialist Technicians in the running of the dispensary.
As a member of the Patient Services team, you would be encouraged to contribute to the forward planning of the department and help in the co-ordination of workflow whilst undertaking a wide range of duties including accuracy checking and dispensing.

The dispensary opening hours are 8:45am - 7pm. There will be a commitment to working late nights in this role. Working hours for this post can be negotiated. Full time and part time will be considered.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertake a wide range of duties at both dispensary and ward level, including contributing to medicines management systems.
2. Check dispensed items for accuracy as an accredited checker.
3. Contribute to the efficient delivery of the Pharmaceutical Service to Patients, Wards, and Departments both within the Trust and to other healthcare organisations.
4. Supervise the work of other staff in Dispensary Services section.

Job responsibilities
Managerial Duties
1. Deputise for the Specialist Technicians in their absence.
2. Supervise the work of Pharmacy Technicians, Students and Pharmacy Assistant: maintaining standards of service and ensuring completion of all specified documentation.
3. Brief staff on rotation and inform them of any changes in working practice.
4. Dispense and issue medicines to patients, using actual or faxed prescriptions, ensuring that all the necessary information is available.
5. Provide advice and information to patients on how to take their medicines effectively and safely.
6. Check dispensed items for accuracy as an accredited checker.
7. Take payment for prescription charges and generate a receipt when required.
8. Ensure that all information needed for accurate stock control and prescription issues data is recorded using both paper systems and the computerised Pharmacy Information System (PIS).
9. Liaise with Procurement staff about urgently required medicines and informing patients and other health care staff about supply problems/delays.
10. Dispense clinical trial medication and complete all required documentation following the defined Standard Operating Procedures.
11. Dispense specialist hospital-only medicines and unlicensed medicines which require accurate, detailed records.
12. Dispense oral chemotherapy medicines taking necessary precautions detailed in SOPs.
13. Dispense controlled drugs and ensure that all legally required records are accurate and up to date.
14. Participate in the Ward Stock 'Topping - up' service with responsibility for a designated group of Wards. This will require regular discussion with Pharmacists and Ward Managers about medicines usage and stock levels.
15. Replenish the A&E out-of-hours medicine cupboard ensuring prescription reconciliation and accurate recording of issues to patients.
16. Replenish the out-of-hours Emergency drug cupboard(s) ensuring accurate recording of issues to patients.

Qualifications
* BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent.
* Registered with GPHC as a Pharmacy Technician.
* Certificate of Accreditation as a Checking Technician or willing to complete training once in post.
Experience
* Dispensing of medicines.
* Ward top-up.
* Aseptic preparation.
* Cytotoxic reconstitution.
* NHS experience.
* Knowledge of Pharmacy information systems.
Training
* Portfolio of evidence for continuing professional development.

£29,970 to £36,483 a year. Pay is pro rata for part time.
