The post holder will work as a co-ordinator in the Major Trauma Ward to provide an effective, safe environment of care for individual patients, their relatives and carers.
To act as a visible role model and acts as a designated deputy to the Unit Managers.
The post holder will initiate and undertake / supervise specific projects/ audits related to the professional development of nursing, monitoring standards of care and acting as an agent for change in achieving a culture that is flexible and responds positively to the demands and future development of the service. To undertake a key role in the delivery of the unit’s privacy and dignity agenda.

Main duties of the job
The Major Trauma Ward is a friendly 22 bedded, mixed sex ward. The ward is extremely busy catering for a variety of complex injuries ranging from major lacerations to complex road traffic trauma patients offering nurses a chance to develop skills in high dependency nursing.
There is a wide age range amongst our patients affording excellent experience in basic nursing care, rehabilitation and complex discharge planning.
A kind and compassionate manner, and an interest in providing an excellent standard of care are essential. We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring nurse with recent acute experience in trauma to join our team. Please see job description for full duties and experience required.
We are a very supportive team and can offer a structured Orientation Programme and are happy to give you help and guidance to develop. There are various study days and courses held within the Trust and with Brighton & Sussex University to support your learning.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provides effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with
the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct
Practices within the NMC code of conduct and has responsibility for promoting and monitoring this practice on the ward
Takes the lead role in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating
individualised evidence based patient care including the monitoring of care
standards through audit and other activities
Participates in the development and implementation of an explicit ward
philosophy of care
Responsible for the process of attendances, admissions & transfers and plans discharges in accordance with UHSussex policy and standards, including liaison with partner agencies
Actively participates and monitors the promotion of education for patients, their relatives and colleagues and ensures these needs are met within available resources
Ensures provision of all drugs as prescribed in accordance with UHSussex

Essential criteria
1. UK NMC PIN required
2. > 18 months B5 experience
3. Shift leading experience on acute ward
Desirable criteria
4. B5 experience on major trauma ward.
