A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the local MacMillan Unit as a Senior Specialist Nurse to lead the team. The successful candidate will have a 50:50 split of clinical specialist nurse and leadership responsibility for the MacMillan team thus giving a varied and exciting role.
The MacMillan Unit comprises of a 4 single room inpatient area, co-located with an outpatient service which has a treatment room with 4 chairs for chemotherapy etc, 2 consulting rooms and a shared workspace for the MacMillan outpatient team. The unit is geographically remote from the mainland cancer centre and is supported by Consultant Oncologists, Haematologists and Consultants in Palliative Care by telephone and digital links with Grampian services enabling cancer care and treatment close to home.
Significant experience and high level of clinical expertise at specialist nurse level within cancer and palliative care is essential. The successful candidate is expected to function at specialist nurse level, often autonomously, with the support of both the Scottish mainland cancer services and the local team in Orkney.
