Operations Manager, Warehouse Management & related
Our client is a leading FMCG Distributor, currently recruiting for an experienced Warehouse professional to appoint a Warehouse Operations Manager at their site in Portbury.
The Warehouse Operations Manager for customer order fulfilment will have responsibility for the warehouse operations team covering the process from pick replenishment to the point of dispatch, managing around 120 people. The main goal is to ensure we deliver the needs of our customers.
This role is key to delivering operational success as our client’s business expands. You will ideally have proven experience in implementing lean management techniques and the insight to see opportunities for improvement. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential to bring the Portbury teams and stakeholders on this journey.

Responsibilities of the Warehouse Operations Manager:
1. Lead the team to deliver high levels of performance and engagement, motivating and inspiring teams across all shift patterns.
2. Develop a high-performance culture promoting excellent leadership standards, inspiring First Line Managers (FLMs) to develop all employees and maintain high morale.
3. Plan and coordinate the warehouse picking team and loaders to ensure the required service level is provided to our customers (internal and external).
4. Ensure compliance with food safety requirements and achievement of high-quality standards.
5. Optimize and improve IT system solutions.
6. Ensure FLMs understand the commercial implications of the budget and manage costs within budget.
7. Accountability for overall team productivity.
8. Ensure stock accuracy through effective use of SAP and other warehouse management systems and processes.
9. Instil a culture of continuous improvement throughout the team.
10. Ensure all health, safety, environment, and quality requirements are fully implemented.
11. Work with HR to address issues within disciplinary, grievance, and absence management processes.
12. Ensure open and effective team communication.
13. Work within budgeted team establishment levels and lead FLMs to develop a suitably trained and qualified staff.
14. Management of warehouse assets, covering maintenance, utilization, and cost control.
15. Take a leading role in capacity planning.
16. Liaison with external service providers, especially around site management.
The Ideal Candidate for Warehouse Operations Manager:
1. Previous experience in a Warehouse Manager role.
2. Experienced in the implementation of lean management techniques and process/efficiency improvement.
3. Excellent people-manager, happy to lead from the front in operational areas.
4. Proven ability to control costs with a focus on profit, loss, and added value.
5. Good financial acumen with experience of delivering against demanding direct labour cost targets.
6. A personal reputation for high standards of health and safety.
7. An expert communicator, able to connect with warehouse staff, directors, and everyone in between.
8. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and customers.
9. Analytical, fact-based approach with a good understanding of reporting and recording performance statistics.
10. Understanding of Works Councils/Trade Union relationships.
11. Problem-solving skills at both day-to-day and strategic levels.
12. Agility of thought and the ability to take swift action when needed.
