This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities
* Ensuring the level of service provided by the staff and workshop under their control meets the prevailing operational requirements of Surrey and Sussex Police and their other customers. This includes ensuring that the workshop and staff meet the efficiency targets.
* Having corporate responsibility to ensure all JTS staff develop and their performance is managed and documented.
* Identifying, promoting and maintaining standardised procedures and policies in line with all JTS Workshop sites.
* Ensuring that, subject to local familiarisation, all JTS staff are sufficiently competent to operate at a different JTS workshop when required to do so.
* Being competent in the use of relevant computer programs which their staff use to carry out their duties and procedures to ensure that the correct accurate information is being inputted into the system.
* Ensuring that the vehicle maintenance staff carry out servicing, maintenance and repair activities in accordance with the relevant vehicle manufacturers' instructions and guidance.
* Ensuring that all staff are aware of and compliant with H&S and Environmental Policies and Guidance.
* Reviewing and managing all workshop activities and products, H&S documentation (inc. Risk Assessment, COSHH Assessment, Display Screen Assessment and Safe Systems of Work).
* Ensuring that an effective communication plan exists in all locations to keep all JTS management & staff and customers up to date with all relevant changes in technical, policy and management information.
* Understanding and managing all expenditure within agreed budgets for their area of responsibility.
* Ensuring the appropriate levels of authority are adhered to in their areas of responsibility.
* Promoting lessons learnt and best practices culture across all activities of JTS.
* Liaising with the Parts and Logistic Manager to ensure the appropriate stock levels for all transport-related goods are managed in a cost-effective manner, whilst being available parts when required.
* Identifying opportunities to maximise external income.
* Developing a culture of continuous improvement and use of best practice in all JTS staff and workshops.
Skills & Experience
As the ideal candidate, you will possess:
* Proven and well-evidenced experience in the organisation of maintaining vehicles in a commercial environment.
* Proven experience of leading, motivating and influencing others to achieve own, team and departmental objectives.
* Proven experience of coaching and developing staff.
* Excellent planning and organisational skills to manage own work volume and the workshop production.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to allocate and monitor varying work streams during day-to-day work.
* Experience of working within a team, in a supportive or management role and working to own initiative without close supervision.
* Good understanding and use of IT office solutions (e.g. MS Word, Excel).
* Proven experience working under pressure, prioritising workload issues to manage time effectively, meet tight deadlines, take control and respond flexibly to rapidly changing demands.
* Good experience of engaging with external suppliers and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
* Strong evidence of a commitment to continuous development to keep own knowledge up to date with changing legislation, policies and various procedures with regards to industry notifications and be able to articulate and effectively communicate these changes to the team.
* Demonstrate ability to make decisions using professional judgement and to act autonomously in the workplace in accordance with policies and procedures.
