Job Summary We have an exciting opportunity to work as a Scientist (Band 7) and welcome applications from Clinical Scientists and Biomedical Scientist Advanced Specialists. You would be based in the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) Laboratory, at our Blood Centre in Filton, Bristol. Working in a purpose built, state-of-the art building with the most up to date technology. Our laboratory carries out testing for stem cell transplantation, post-transplant monitoring and immunogenetic testing for the Southwest. We are also the national platelet and granulocyte immunology laboratory, carrying out serological investigations to support a variety of conditions. Our friendly team of experts play an important role performing, analysing and interpreting a wide range of specialist scientific, technical procedures and investigations relating to the issue of results for transplant patients and donors. In addition, you will be involved with the supply of HPA selected platelet units. You will provide advice to clinicians, contribute to the coordination and supervision of work, training and conduct of scientific and support staff. This role has a direct impact on patient care, having the following qualifications and /or experience; a HCPC registered Scientist with post registration experience, a MSc or equivalent in transplantation, immunology, transfusion or relevant science or a specialist qualification in H&I i.e. a BSHI Diploma or relevant experience, is essential to be successful in achieving this appointment. Main duties of the job In this role you will be role as a Clinical Scientist / Biomedical Scientist Advanced Specialist, you will be required to analyse, interpret, validate and report the results of specialist Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) investigations. Your duties will include: Analysing and performing both molecular and serological based testing in relation to solid organ and haematopoietic stem cell transplant and immunogenetic services and platelet and granulocyte immunology. Assisting with quality management issues within your section of the laboratory, under the direction of the Clinical Scientists Section Head and Laboratory Operations Manager. Communicating specialist results to internal and external clinicians, other healthcare colleagues and scientific staff on for example test results. Contributing to the coordination and supervision of the work, training and conduct of scientific and support staff. Assisting with the supply of HPA selected platelet units, providing advice to clinicians. With appropriate training and experience you may be required to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and exceptionally to provide cover in times of operational difficulty for which notice will be given. About You Experience and Knowledge In depth knowledge and expertise in clinical solid organ and/or stem cell transplantation science. Experience of working to quality and accreditation systems and standards. Proficiency in relevant specialised laboratory techniques /environments. Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint). Qualifications and Training MSc or equivalent in transplantation, immunology, transfusion or relevant science. OR equivalent specialist knowledge gained by examination of a professional body e.g. BSHI Diploma. OR equivalent relevant experience. Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registered Clinical or Biomedical Scientist (which must be maintained). BSc in Biological/Medical sciences or relevant sciences. Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
