Ever thought about working for the NHS? Come and work for a fantastic Trust as a Shift Porter at the Horton General Hospital - Banbury. Working as part of a team, you will provide a Portering service that supports all aspects of patient care and the general running of a hospital.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Safely moving patients within the hospital site, between departments as required by clinical service teams.
2. Assisting departments with the movement of patients using clinical manual handling procedures.
3. Using machinery, equipment or materials as required throughout the hospital site, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and procedures.
4. Replacing medical gas cylinders and checking for leaks in accordance with defined procedures.
5. Collecting pathology specimens, containers and units of blood as required.
6. Transferring pharmacy supplies, fluids, controlled drugs and emergency equipment as required.
7. Undertaking non-routine Portering duties such as office and equipment moves and escort duties.
8. Responding to service delivery issues using own judgement when the line manager/senior supervisor is not available.
9. Assisting security staff with challenging patients or relatives.
10. Delivering and collecting patient food trolleys across the hospital site.
11. Moving deceased patients from clinical areas to the mortuary.
12. Collecting and sorting mail for delivery across the hospital site.
13. Attending trauma/adult/cardiac/major incident/fire calls as part of the incident response team.
14. Cleaning bed frames, trolleys and bariatric equipment prior to storage.
15. Covering the duties of radiology and Accident & Emergency porters as required.
16. Completing all necessary training required by the Trust.
17. Delivering clean linen to wards and departments and collecting soiled linen.
18. Undertaking curtain changes as part of the terminal clean process.
19. Liaising with Trust colleagues, patients, visitors and the general public in an appropriate manner.
20. Developing knowledge of the hospital layout, equipment requirements and manual handling.
We are currently looking to recruit motivated individuals who would like to make a difference to the patient experience by joining the Horton in-house Shift Portering team here at Banbury. Experience of working in a diverse organisation is essential, and previous experience in shift work providing a 24/7 service along with NHS experience would be an advantage.
