Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in Chemical Pathology to commence as soon as possible for the following period:
1 WTE (05 February 2025 till 11 May 2025)
0.5 WTE (12 May 2025 till 10 January 2026).
This is an excellent opportunity within the Pathology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful applicant will form part of the Trust’s pathology department and will be a part of a team that includes 1 Chemical Pathologist and two Clinical Biochemists providing a comprehensive service. There is also a clinical component by doing outpatient clinics and inpatient ward rounds. Clinical results validation and clinical liaison are important components of the required duties of this position. The department provides a comprehensive range of services for our resident population of approximately 500,000 residing mainly in East and North Hertfordshire and extends to the borders of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, West Hertfordshire and Essex.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide general care within the department in close co-operation with colleagues and other specialties.
2. To participate in surgical cutup, surgical reporting, cytology reporting, thus ensuring the delivery of a high-quality histopathology, cytopathology service.
3. To advise and be available for consultation on clinical matters both generally and on an individual patient basis with clinical colleagues in the hospital, general practitioners, and Trust staff.
4. To participate in the department’s teaching, audit, and educational activities.

Person specification
Skills
* Participated in research and published papers and original work in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications / Training
* Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council.
* MBBS or qualification of an equivalent level.
* FRCPath (parts 1 and 2).
Previous Experience
* Experience in Histopathology/Cytology at ST level or equivalent.
* NHS experience.
Knowledge
* Experience of audit.
Fitness to Practice
* Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation.
