My client based in the Northwest of England is currently in the process of opening several new Childrens Homes across the region and are now ready to start recruiting for the Registered Manager vacancies. The Registered Manager at this home will be overseeing a 3 bed EBD facility for young people aged between 8 and 18. As the Registered Manager, you willl be runningday to day operations of the children's home. This will include centre leadership, staff support and decision making within the boundaries of delegated authority and within the policies and procedures of homes for Children and to outline a balanced programme in co-operation with all staff to take account of the social, care and education needs of all young people. You will provide leadership and oversight to the three disciplines at the home; Care, Education and Health. To be a successful Registered Manager in a Childrens Home, there are several facets to the role and it requires someone who is confident in their abilities as a manager. Some of these key areas are outlined below: Communication Understands the importance of keeping the team up to date, takes time to explain things. Works in an open manner, shares information with others to get the job done. Encourages staff to discuss ideas and concerns and provides feedback to the relevant parties. Ensures that relevant information is shared through the agreed communication processes. Adopts a communication style appropriate to situation whether leading or providing advice and guidance. Business Alignment Establishes and maintains external relationships and partnerships such as local authorities, Ofsted, Social Services etc Interprets and analyses data to make future decisions. Identifies and explores new business opportunities. Understands how sector initiatives impact on the business, e.g. Government initiatives, funding, Ofsteds inspection framework etc. Develops and implements strategies to improve commitment to quality. Challenges the status quo to identify new ways of improving business performance. Places significant emphasis on both the future and shorter-term implications when decision making. Actively takes responsibility for business improvement/ development at own level by taking part in/providing feedback through organisational working groups, i.e. Residential Development Forum (RDF) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) Leadership & Team Working Creates a shared vision of organisational and operational excellence; connects department goals and individual contributions through promoting the providervalues. Develops strategies to persuade others to develop and operate a constructive and collaborative team working environment. Delegates routine elements of more complex tasks and encourages others to do the same, confirms when others have understood and learnt from delegated tasks. Understands how feelings and emotions may impact on performance of the team and controls emotions to minimise negative impact. Establishes clear performance goals and expectations; manages performance to achieve goals. Coaches for improved performance; encourages outside the box thinking. Leads change programmes that has a cultural/strategic impact by influencing internal and external stakeholders. Safeguarding Has knowledge of and can apply relevant national guidance & legislation (including Children Act 2004 and responsibilities from this Act) and local procedures. Can identify own responsibilities and those of others in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. (Including information sharing, consent requirements, confidentiality, recording requirements and whistle blowing procedures). Demonstrates the ability to use sound professional judgement and assessment skills in situations of risk and complexity, to decide about whether a child is at risk or experiencing significant harm. Understands some of the blocks and challenges in safeguarding work and demonstrates strategies to manage these, including situations of hostility and disguised compliance. Ability to present safeguarding/child protection concerns verbally and in writing for professional and legal purposes as required (and as appropriate to case conference, court proceedings, core groups, strategy meetings, family group conferences and for children and young people and families.) The Registered Manager will be qualified with a level 5 diploma in residential care or equivalent. At the very least, the Registered Manager will be willing to work towards gaining this qualification. Candidates who are currently working as Deputy Manager and have their Level 5/are working towards achieving their Level 5 may also be considered.
