Position: The position is tentative based on funding outcome, but potentially will be commencing approximately May 5th, 2025, and ending August 22nd, 2025 (35/hrs per week).
Salary range: $18.50/hr

Qualifications
To be eligible for this summer student research assistant position:
* You must be a NSCC student and returning to school in September or will be graduating from NSCC program in May/June 2025
Minimum qualifications:
* Diploma in Horticulture, Natural Resources, and/or a Degree in a related discipline.
Minimum experience:
* Experience ideally related to plant ecology, crop science, soil science, or tissue culture preferred, but not required
* Experience with compiling diverse datasets from various sources
* Experience with plant and soil analysis will be considered an asset
* Ability to conduct field research experiments with minimum supervision
* Work irregular hours
Minimum skills and ability:
* Excellent interpersonal skills as well as effective oral and written communication skills
* Strong planning and organizational skills
* Exceptional client service skills and a proven team player
* Ability to work as a team member in a deadline-oriented work environment
* Demonstrated analytical skills, problem-solving techniques and the ability to look beyond symptoms to gather facts and information
* Expertise in software including Microsoft office suite of products (Excel, Word, etc)
Responsibilities
What you'll be doing:
As a member of the NSCC's Environmental and Agricultural Technology Research Lab of the Annapolis Valley campus, the Summer Student Research Assistant will be responsible for helping Research Associates conduct plant and soil research. This will involve setting up the experiments, maintaining plots, and sampling. Other general responsibilities range from developing status reports and giving presentations related to the deliverables of the project. Further expectations revolve around conducting fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions that may require both indoor and outside working environments.
Additional Information
Candidates selected for interviews will be expected to provide at least three recent, occupational references. The successful candidate will be expected to provide official transcripts to show proof of academic achievements.
