Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our Alternative Provision team. The successful candidate will support students with diverse and often complex needs, helping them to achieve their full potential in an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Student Support:
* Work with individual students or small groups to provide targeted academic and emotional support.
* Assist students with learning activities, fostering an engaging and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
* Implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and support strategies as directed by the teaching staff.
* Classroom Assistance:
* Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment.
* Help prepare and organise teaching materials and resources.
* Supervise and assist with classroom activities, field trips, and other events.
* Behaviour Management:
* Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies including restorative approaches to support students.
* Monitor and record student progress, behaviours, and any incidents, reporting to the relevant staff as needed.
* Collaboration and Communication:
* Work collaboratively with all staff to ensure the effective delivery of educational programs.
* Maintain open and effective communication with parents and caregivers, providing updates on student progress and concerns.
* Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
* Administrative Duties:
* Maintain accurate records of student progress and activities.
* Assist with administrative tasks as required, such as photocopying, filing, and organising classroom materials.
Qualifications and Skills
* Education:
* Minimum of GCSE passes at 4 or equivalent; a relevant qualification in education or child development is preferred.
* Additional qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN) are desirable.
* Experience:
* Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational or care setting, particularly those with special educational needs or behavioural challenges.
* Experience in an alternative provision setting is advantageous.
* Skills:
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young people.
* Ability to manage challenging behaviours and stay calm under pressure.
* Good organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
* Have a good understanding of safeguarding in an educational setting
