NHS Supply Chain currently has an opportunity for an Executive Director of Finance to join our team during an exciting period of transformation, working to make it easier for the NHS to put patients first.
NHS Supply Chain was formed in 2018 and is the legal entity at the heart of the NHS Supply Chain and provides a Supply Chain service to the NHS and holds a range of contracts with expert service providers. It has a revenue in excess of £5bn and manages over 550,000 unique products sourced from over 1,000 suppliers, leveraging a national supply chain including 7 regional and national distribution centres, and employs over 1,200 people, as part of a wider NHS Supply Chain workforce of over 4,000 (including logistics, IT and commercial partners).
It operates a national supply chain for medical devices and clinical consumables, providing a high level of service and range of delivery options through expert partners. The business also offers a range of clinical services, from driving product innovation, to clinically and quality assuring products, to supporting patient safety, and improving clinical outcomes. This is alongside the ambitious and critical role in supporting the delivery of the NHS net zero commitment by 2045 and social value ambitions.

NHS Supply Chain are now looking to appoint an Executive Director of Finance who will ensure strong and effective financial governance, together with strategic financial and performance leadership. This is a new Executive level role which has been established to support the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for leading the Finance function.
The successful candidate will have a digital focus linked to the Financial operations having driven a digitalisation agenda in its broadest sense, and be able to demonstrate how technology can enhance all aspects of the organisation.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the role will partner with the Executive Team and business leaders in the development and rollout of the company’s vision and strategy and by improving and safeguarding financial results. They will lead a team of financial experts in the development of finance ways of working, implementation of insights and recommendations to improve organisational performance. Responsible for the transformation of the finance operating system and governance, processes, reports, and tools of the financial reporting systems.

What skills will help you thrive in this role?
* A depth and breadth of financial leadership experience and a professional accountancy qualification (ACA ACCA CIMA CIPFA).
* Experience of driving change to create an environment that values adaptability and embraces change as an opportunity for growth.
* A people leadership style characterised by high emotional intelligence, ideally developed through leading high-performing finance teams.
* Experience of working in a commercial (for profit) business (supply chain, logistics, healthcare sectors would be desirable for a base level of knowledge) as well as an understanding/appreciation of the NHS as the customer.
* A history of delivering process excellence through transformation.
