Accessibility Experience
* At least 5+ years’ experience of end-to-end product development with a deep specialism in accessibility.As an accessibility specialist you will be able to provide technical expertise and bring the voice of disabled user groups to ensure our products are accessible to all.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical accessibility advice to product, user experience and technical product leads that adhere to our product accessibility guidelines.
* Work proactively with development teams to troubleshoot and resolve accessibility issues and complaints in a timely manner and identify ways to prevent issues happening again.
* Advocate for accessibility across product teams, even when faced with competing priorities or other constraints.
* Share your expertise with other product colleagues, for example at Accessibility Champion meet-ups or knowledge shares.
* Work with third party accessibility vendors where necessary providing direction, support, and documentation.
Mandatory – Technical skills
In depth knowledge of digital accessibility, inclusion, and useability and the ability to communicate how usability influences accessibility.
In depth knowledge of accessibility standards and regulations such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA and AAA requirements and after onboarding, the organisations own guidelines.
In depth knowledge and use of desktop and mobile assistive technologies (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText).
In depth knowledge of web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WAI ARIA) and the ability to share a deep knowledge of how to select and use appropriate technology.
In depth knowledge of accessibility evaluation tools and frameworks (e.g., Axe, Developer Tools, Accessibility Inspector).
If required, perform detailed health assessments of products against our own guidelines, document findings clearly, and provide solutions for others to work from (please note however that we are not looking for a QA tester, but we do expect you to be able to manage testing activities within development and integration activities, as required).
Mandatory – Other skills
Experience in training and learning activities: Ability to create engaging and effective accessibility training materials, including E-learning modules.
Excellent organisational, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills and the ability to communicate complex accessibility concepts and requirements to diverse stakeholders.
Ability to advocate for accessibility and inclusion, and influence change at all levels of an organisation.
Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical and accessibility experience.
Desirable – Other skills
Experience in instructional design (process of creating training programmes in a way that ensures effective learning through learning needs analysis, defining learning objectives, selecting appropriate instructional strategies, and designing assessments and evaluation of the training effectiveness)
Experience engaging with accessibility networks such as champion groups or guilds.
Consultancy or other experience in large organisations – ability to swiftly adapt and advise on different products and platforms by analysing and troubleshooting accessibility barriers.
