Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Playground Installer to join our team with skilled knowledge and experience in carpentry works. This role is ideal for a dedicated professional who values craftsmanship, enjoys working outdoors, and can ensure safety and durability in play equipment installations. This role will include the installation, repair, and maintenance of playground equipment and surfacing across a variety of sites, including schools, parks, and community spaces. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role that requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Carpentry and Construction Tasks
* Perform wood cutting, shaping, and finishing for our custom-built products.
* Use hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment safely and effectively.
* Construct, install, and repair Pentagon's play equipment, canopies, and gazebos.
* Read and interpret technical drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements.
* Ensure high levels of precision and attention to detail in all aspects of construction.
* Inspect and maintain work quality, adjusting as needed to meet product standards and client expectations.
Groundworks and Surfacing:
* Clear and level site areas for new playground installations, removing debris, vegetation, and any potential hazards.
* Mark out, measure, and set levels according to site plans.
* Excavate and prepare foundations for playground equipment and structures.
* Lay safety surfaces, such as shock padding, artificial grass, or wet pour surfacing (training provided).
* Conduct drainage works and soil preparation, ensuring proper water run-off and stability.
* Complete any required hard and soft landscaping, including paths, borders, and grass areas surrounding the play area.
Installation of Playground Equipment:
* Assemble and install playground structures, surfacing, fencing, and safety features.
* Follow design plans, site specifications, and installation instructions.
* Ensure installations meet industry safety standards and client expectations.
* Inspect equipment before and after installation to ensure quality and safety compliance.
Site Preparation and Setup:
* Prepare and level ground, excavate and dig foundations as necessary.
* Operate hand tools and machinery (e.g., diggers, drills) to set up and secure playground equipment.
* Transport equipment to and from sites, ensuring everything is in place for smooth installation.
Safety and Quality Assurance:
* Perform quality checks on installed equipment to confirm proper assembly and safety compliance.
* Adhere to health and safety guidelines, using relevant personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe working practices.
Repair and Maintenance:
* Inspect and troubleshoot existing playground equipment for wear, damage, or safety risks.
* Perform maintenance tasks, including part replacement, surface repairs, and structural adjustments.
* Document repairs and installations, providing reports to supervisors and clients as needed.
Customer Interaction:
* Communicate effectively with clients, operation coordinators, and site contacts.
* Provide guidance on equipment usage, maintenance, and safety procedures when required.
* Address client concerns professionally, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
Pentagon is based on Ashridge Road, Bradley Stoke, but our site locations vary across the South of the UK. The successful candidate must be flexible to work at installations further afield, which may require overnight stays as needed by the business (excluding weekends).
Desirable Experience:
* Previous experience of installing in-ground play equipment.
* Fencing experience.
* Understanding of base works, etc.
* Installing artificial grass.
* Operating a range of plant and equipment safely.
* CAT & GENNY (Location of underground services).
* PASMA.
* CSCS/CPCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) is preferred but can also be provided (360 Excavator/Forward tipping Dumper).
* A valid UK driver’s license.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in using power tools, hand tools, and equipment associated with installation tasks.
* Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, standing, kneeling, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
* High attention to detail and working knowledge of different woodworking tools.
* Knowledge of playground safety standards (such as EN 1176 and EN 1177) is an advantage.
* Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively, keeping to deadlines.
* Experience in carpentry: Minimum of 2 years' experience in carpentry, ideally with experience in outdoor or playground installations.
* Other experience: Previous experience in playground installation, construction, landscaping, or a related field is preferred.
