Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented NVQ2 qualified dispenser to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate dispensing of medications and providing exceptional patient care. This position requires a strong understanding of GP dispensary or pharmacy operations and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency. Working days will be Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 08.00hrs – 18.00hrs. These hours are required in order to meet our patient service obligations and cannot be amended.
Job Role:
To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by the practice doctor(s) and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice. The dispenser must be prepared to undertake any necessary training to ensure that he/she maintains the necessary skills and competency required.
Responsibilities:
1. To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
2. To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient, or patient’s representative.
3. To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and passed to the Finance Assistant for banking.
4. To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the NHSBSA for processing and reimbursement. The forms should be bundled in accordance with current NHSBSA guidelines and include any necessary accompanying paperwork such as the FP34D and invoices as required by the NHSBSA.
5. To promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Finance Assistant or Practice & Business Manager.
6. To notify the authorising doctor or Practice & Business Manager of any FP10 returns/feedback from the NHSBSA so that any appropriate remedial action may be taken.
7. To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
8. To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
9. To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.
10. To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
11. To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature.
12. To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.
13. To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.
14. Proven ability to demonstrate a high level of customer service to patients.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
1. Qualifications
Essential: A UK recognised qualification Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Services Skills/Dispensing or accredited equivalent qualification.
Desirable: Previous experience working in a dispensing GP practice dispensary.
2. Experience
Minimum 2 years experience working as a dispenser.
3. Knowledge/Skills
Competent in dispenser duties, has skills or willing to develop skills in duties as described in job description, excellent communication skills.
4. Qualities/Attributes
