Due to the increase in treatments and care we give to our patients, we have a new permanent opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Referral to Admission Team (R2A) based at our Plymouth hospital.
Are you a Healthcare Assistant with strong administration skills who can effectively ensure a patient’s pathway? How often in your healthcare experience have you performed case management responsibilities on behalf of a patient? Are you able to manage effectively in a fast-paced environment, yet still ensure every step of every administration process is covered from start to finish?
The R2A - Healthcare Assistant is fundamental in supporting the patient pathway and enhancing the patient's clinical experience by performing effective pre-operative case management, coordination, and administration tasks leading up to and including the day of a patient's procedure.
This is a permanent position, working Monday to Friday.
Weekly shift hours are varied:
07:30 to 15:30 – Early
08:00 to 16:00 / 08:30 to 16:30 / 09:00 to 17:00,
depending on the need of service.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the R2A Manager/Coordinator, you the (R2A) – Health Care Assistant will need to carry out calls to all pre-operative patients in good time prior to their appointment with us. You’ll be ensuring they are ready by confirming due times for arrival at the hospital, also ensuring of their fitness for the procedure.
You’ll be the point of contact to receive calls from patients, answering any questions and managing any inquiries they might have.
Part of your duty will be to collate paper copies of patient pathology reports, ensuring all notes are maintained to set standards and scanning any required test results into our Electronic Patient Record system.
The main focus of this position is to effectively ensure the patient is prepared for their surgery and all arrangements and documentation for that patient are well in place. If there are any concerns, they must be raised to the Registered Lead as soon as possible.
You’ll be in regular communication with varied medical staff, consultants, nurses, and other administration staff, and will look to keep the patient updated and well informed.
What we’ll look for in you
This R2A - Healthcare Assistant position would be ideal for those who have performed a similar role in the past; managing and ensuring a patient’s pathway, appointments, and smooth clinical operation.
You’ll be welcoming, informative, and accommodating, adaptable as sometimes you might be having to support a potentially worried and uneasy patient at times.
You'll be an effective communicator at all levels both written and verbal with strong IT skills, able to pick up new systems easily.
You will be an experienced administrator with a strong customer focus appreciation, used to working effectively in a fast-paced, busy environment, yet managing that effective communication style.
You will be competent working with personal information and sensitive data and very familiar working within GDPR regulations.
