Carlton Bolling is a large secondary school of over 1600 students situated close to the centre of Bradford. It has been on a remarkable improvement journey over recent years, after going into Special Measures in 2014 under high-profile circumstances and being dubbed ‘The Most Broken School in the Country’. From this low point it underwent rapid improvement, attaining an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted less than two years after coming out of Special Measures. This success was followed up by accreditation as a World Class School in 2018, then being named ‘Secondary School of The Year’ in the 2019 Pearson/BBC National Teaching Awards. Despite this considerable success, the school still retains its innovative edge with several exciting initiatives being introduced over recent years, with many more to come.
Like all schools in the Trust, Carlton Bolling is a pleasant place to work with friendly, supportive, and helpful staff. Class sizes are small, averaging just 16 across all year groups in Maths and English, with slightly higher numbers in other subjects. Student behaviour and conduct is excellent, promoted and maintained by a large team of non-teaching Heads of Year. In line with Trust priorities, meetings, bureaucracy, and paperwork are kept to the absolute minimum, with staff regularly recognised and rewarded for their contribution to the school.
The Creative Studies Faculty is a large faculty with 21 teachers and 3 technicians. We follow the national curriculum for years 7 and 8 and students take options for a for a two-year GCSE in years 10 and 11. We offer GCSE subjects in Art & Design, Textiles, Digital Photography, Food and Nutrition, and Design Technology with BTEC Awards in Drama, Music & PE. Class sizes are around 20-22 students at KS3 and 20 at KS4 and staff are supported with some excellent resources and training.
We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, innovative, and research-informed Teacher of Art & Photography. Art & Photography is a popular subject amongst students and align with our commitment to providing a broad and holistic education for young people. You would join a dynamic and rapidly improving department, and we are looking to add capacity to support school growth and continue our upward trajectory. There are many opportunities for progression across the Trust to ensure that careers can be developed, and staff are suitably rewarded for their hard work.
