This role involves supporting the Clinical Psychologists working in a Paediatric Health Psychology service, particularly within the Paediatric Complications of Excessive Weight Service.
This post entails developing resources for families, contributing to teaching and training, working closely with clinical psychologists to support co-production in research, and engaging in service evaluation from planning, design, and data collection to write-up. There is also the potential for direct work with children and families, including assessment, group work, and an appropriate level of clinical intervention.
The postholder will receive regular supervision from a qualified Clinical Psychologist and will have opportunities to access other teaching and training offered within the department. This post involves working across a wide multidisciplinary team of professionals within a paediatric healthcare setting.
The successful candidate will be based within our well-established Paediatric Health Psychology Team in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Paediatric Health Psychology Service is committed to child and family-centred care. The Paediatric Health Psychology Team is part of the wider department of Psychology in Healthcare, enabling collaboration and support with adult psychology colleagues.
Main duties of the job
* Contributing to staff training - both in design and delivery
* Participating in co-production in research and service evaluation projects
* Developing resources for families
* Contributing to service evaluation projects, e.g., implementation of a matched care model of service delivery
* Regular supervision with a qualified clinical psychologist
* Assessment and delivery of clinical interventions for families, at an appropriate level
* Scoping possibilities around group work, with potential to co-deliver groups
Job responsibilities
* To support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients.
* Providing psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
* Assisting in clinical-related administration, conduct of audits, data quality work, teaching, and project work.
* This post involves working independently according to a work plan agreed with the line manager and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

Person Specification
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
* Single honours degree (upper second class or higher) in psychology
* Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology
EXPERIENCE
* Paid or voluntary experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or alongside a Clinical Psychologist
* Computer literate with experience of using Microsoft Office and statistical packages for data analysis
* Experience of conducting literature searches and reviews
* Experience of working with patient groups with psychological difficulties
* Experience of working with groups
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
* Knowledge of developmental processes from childhood to old age
* Understanding the needs of individuals with psychological difficulties
* An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge and skills to a healthcare setting
* Understanding of issues relating to confidentiality
* High-level communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to communicate and work in emotive settings
* An understanding of the psychological needs of patients
* High-level report writing
