Mobility Trainer - Vision Habilitation Specialist
This role is based in Lancaster.
Your role:
You will provide a professional assessment of the campus location and then carry out a time-limited programme of training. This training is particularly applicable for blind or visually impaired students who will require an individually developed programme based on assessment of needs and who will need to learn with their coach safe routes around campus, either making use of a long cane or with a guide dog. However, this kind of training may also be applicable to other students whose disability means they have particular difficulty with orientation, for example, students who have acquired brain damage.
Your Skills:
You will possess the relevant qualifications and proven experience in training blind or visually impaired people, or those who have significant orientation difficulties because of other impairments, to find their way independently and safely around a new environment.
Your qualifications/training:
All candidates must possess one of the following qualifications to be considered by First Class Support:
1. BSc (Hons) degree in Rehabilitation work (visual impairment)
2. Specialist Qualification in Habilitation and Disability in Sight (CYP) - from the Institute of Education
3. Certification in Habilitation Studies
4. Foundation degree in Rehabilitation work (visual impairment)
5. Diploma in Higher Education in Rehabilitation work (visual impairment)
6. BTEC Professional Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies (visual impairment)

For this specific role, successful applicants will receive:

Additional Information:
The working hours vary according to the needs of the student and the academic timetable. All support workers are currently paid on a self-employed basis whereby they are responsible for paying their own NI contributions and tax.
All First Class staff must be able to receive emails and phone calls when on location. Only the most experienced and qualified support workers will be selected for interview.
This recruitment campaign is aimed at supporting students during the 2024/2025 academic year.
