Main duties of the job
The Band 6 Labour Ward Midwife is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based midwifery care to women and their families in the labour and delivery setting. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care throughout the intrapartum period, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of mothers and babies. The Labour Ward Midwife will also collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and provide leadership to junior staff.
1. Provide comprehensive care to women during labour, including assessment, monitoring, and the management of labour and delivery.
2. Support and facilitate the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of women and their families.
3. Assist with complex deliveries, including assisted vaginal deliveries and caesarean sections when necessary.
4. Manage postnatal care, including the assessment of both mother and baby, and provide education on infant care and breastfeeding.
5. Administer medications and other interventions as prescribed, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines and policies.
6. Respond to obstetric emergencies effectively and assist with resuscitation procedures for mother and baby when required.

Person Specification
Qualifications/ Training
* Registered midwife with an active NMC registration
* Degree in relevant subject
* Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
* Mentorship/PEAP qualification or equivalent qualification or experience
* Post graduate credits or degree at Master level
Knowledge and Experience
* At least 2 years' experience as a qualified midwife and currently working as a band 6 midwife
* Recent experience of managing high risk intrapartum care
* Knowledge and experience of safeguarding
* Competent in venepuncture, cannulation and IV administration.
* Competence in caring for high risk women in an enhanced care setting
* Competent in use of IT
* Able to work across professional team and organisational boundaries
