Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiothoracic Critical Care

Royal Papworth Hospital are recruiting for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiothoracic Critical Care to commence in August 2025.
The post is suitable for intensivists wishing to enhance their specialist experience in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic critical care, including transplantation, mechanical assist devices, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, focus ultrasound examinations and transthoracic echocardiography (TOE). Applicants will be expected to have completed or be within two years of completing specialist training in their parent specialty.
Specialist Registrars currently enrolled in a UK training programme who wish to retain their National Training Number (NTN) whilst at Royal Papworth, should discuss this 'out-of-programme-experience' (OOP) with their Programme Director. Those not currently in a UK training programme will be appointed as Senior Clinical Fellow, and will be Locally Employed doctors within the Trust. Applicants should be aware that time spent in a Trust appointed post may not be counted towards the award of the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Prospective approval for up to one year can normally be sought from the relevant Royal College when a numbered post has been obtained following such an appointment. Overseas candidates are advised to check the latest GMC requirements for registration, including English language skills.
Main duties of the job
1. To participate fully in the delivery of critical care services, research, and training and educational programmes;
2. To maintain a logbook and appropriate records of progress;
3. To participate in regular performance reviews;
4. To provide an out of hours' service;
5. The ICU Specialist Registrars (Resident) or ICU Fellow will provide immediate support for the critical care areas and emergency resuscitation support for the entire hospital;
6. The daytime ICU cover is provided by 2 -- 3 ICU consultants along with a minimum of four doctors, including ICU fellows, ICU higher specialty trainees, Internal Medicine trainees and Foundation Programme Doctors. At night, there are 4 doctors, including at least 1 ICU fellow or higher specialty trainee;
7. To complete accurate records, such as patient notes and medical audit records;
8. Participation in teaching of medical staff, undergraduate students and other non-medical staff as required by the hospital;
9. Participation in clinical audit activities;
10. To adhere to the hospital and departmental policy for the booking and taking of leave;
11. The Department is actively involved in both basic and clinical research. Encouragement is given to participate in ongoing research projects;
12. Trainees will be required to observe all hospital policies and procedures, and appropriate clinical procedures.

* FRCA or MRCP or MRCS or equivalent

* Other diplomas (e.g. FICM, EDICM)
* Other degrees (e.g. BSc, MSc)
Experience
* Have successfully completed year 3 of higher specialist training or equivalent.
* 6-12 months' experience of cardiothoracic critical care
* Not more than 10 years' specialist experience
