This role will transfer to UHS Estates Ltd (UEL) from 1st April 2025. UEL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The job description, terms and benefits associated with the role will not change as a result of this transfer.
Main duties of the job
You will have relevant knowledge and experience in an Electrical Engineering Field such as Electrical Systems up to 415Vac, IET Wiring Regulations, Building Services, Health Care Environment, Knowledge of HTM06-02/06-03.
You will possess the following:
1. The ability to read and interpret drawings and documents
2. Proven fault-finding skills
3. Detailed technical knowledge of regulatory and industry best practices of electrical systems including Earthing
4. Ability to advise Electricians
5. Ability to supervise apprentices and assistants
The successful candidate will earn around £29,970 + £4,260 (Retention and Recruitment Pay) per year.

Job responsibilities
Your Responsibilities
1. Provide Technical support to the team
2. Undertake day-to-day reactive, planned preventive maintenance and minor installation work
3. Repair equipment and fault-finding
4. Provide temporary support to Band 5 charge hands/supervisors within the Estates Maintenance Team
5. You will work on the following Electrical systems:
* Single phase (230VAC) and three phase (415VAC)
* Various electric motor and associated control gear including Inverters
* POD systems
* Nurse call and fire alarm systems
* Building management system (BMS)
* Air Handling Units
* IPS and UPS systems
* Potential for LV AP duties with training provided
What we're looking for
Qualifications/experiences/skills Essential
1. Served a recognised apprenticeship in relevant Electrical trade
2. Level 3 or higher vocational trade certificate in an Electrical Engineering discipline (NVQ3, C& G Level 3 or equivalent Armed Forces Qualification)
3. BS 7671 (2008) 18th edition (includes latest edition) qualification
4. Computer literate
5. Understanding of Health and Safety requirements including risk assessments and method statements
6. Have a Flexible approach to working
7. Participate in Electricians On call rota
8. Previous experience within Healthcare Engineering
9. Previous experience working with electrical safe isolation
10. Experience with in other associated trade disciplines
11. Inspection and Testing
12. Medical Gases
13. LV/HV installations
Person Specification
Qualifications / training required
Essential
* HNC/Degree or equivalent examined qualification in an Electrical Engineering or related field
* IOSH managing safely qualification must have or acquire within 6-months of taking up post
* Experience in CAD Packages
* Knowledge of Building Regs and understanding of statutory and legal processes in respect to site developments or acquire training within agreed period of time
Desirable
* NEEBOSH General Certificate
* Extensive experience of HV/LV installations (supply and distribution)
* Membership of a recognised professional organisation is encouraged
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential
* Considerable previous Industry related experience of electrical maintenance works
* Knowledge of asbestos regulations and Approved Codes of Practice etc.
* Experience of managing directly employed labour and contractors in the delivery of (a) a reactive maintenance provision, (b) a planned maintenance provision, or (c) a combined service provision
* Knowledge of HBN/HTM, asbestos regulations and Approved Codes of Practice etc.
Desirable
* Project Management experience
* Understanding of mechanical supply and distribution systems within a large site/building
Aptitudes and skills required
Essential
* Carry out technical evaluations/investigations, analyse information and make appropriate judgements
* Translate raw data/information into concise reports with prioritised recommendations to avoid conflict of interests.
* Good IT skills and the ability to use Amtech, MS Office, CAD
* Sound knowledge of regulations, statutory requirements and standards, appropriate in the built environment
