Job overview
An exciting bank contract opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Band 7 or Band 6 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with a specialist interest in either Spinal or peripheral conditions to join our Adult’s Musculoskeletal Team at Dorset County Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and innovative physiotherapist who demonstrates excellent clinical, leadership and communication skills.
Applicants for this post should have a minimum of 5 Years post graduate clinical experience, and a minimum of 3 years specialist MSK related Band 6 experience, and have HCPC registration. We are looking for someone with specific skills and experience of managing patients with complex presentations.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to liaise closely with GP’s, Secondary Care Consultants and other Clinical Leads. The post holder will be expected to both lead and contribute to teaching, service improvement initiatives and actively participate in continuous professional development activities.
Excellent communication skills and an ability to prioritise a caseload of complex patients are essential. Supervisory skills are also required for the clinical support, direction and development of rotational staff, apprentices and students. The post holder will also require excellent time management and interpersonal skills. You must be able to demonstrate sound clinical skills working as an effective team player within a musculoskeletal service.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Co-ordinate supervision and mentoring to ensure staff are working safely within MSK Physiotherapy, alongside the other clinical specialists.
* Be the 'go-to' person for complex presentations, which may involve answering questions from staff or completing joint assessments with staff.
* Link in with other specialist service stakeholders, ensuring a smooth patient journey.
* Embedding current guidelines and recommendations into department practice.
* Lead and develop effective communication between primary care services/secondary care/GP practices and other relevant care providers.
* Educate others on the role of an MSK clinical specialist and patient care pathways.
* Assist the service lead in using local and national evidence-based practice to develop suitable research and audit programmes evaluating the effectiveness of MSK physiotherapy.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
* HCPC Registration
* Undertaken a range of relevant postgraduate courses
* MCSP
* Member of Specialist Interest Group
* MSc or working at M level or equivalent experience/qualification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Comprehensive post graduate physiotherapy experience relevant specialist pathway
* Experience of working autonomously
* Experience of having supervised staff
* Experience in completing audit and evidence based projects.
* Evidence of leading and evaluating in-service training
* Specialist evidence based knowledge for designated specialist pathway.
* Knowledge of national guidelines and standards pertaining to specialist pathway and physiotherapy
* Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for physiotherapy
* Awareness and understanding of NHS structure, current issues, and developments
* Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
* Previous experience at band 7 level
* Involvement in research in relevant specialist pathway
