Introduction
Clean Planet Energy (CPE) is seeking an Engineering Manager to support the lead and management of the technical and engineering aspects of the Teesside ecoPlant deployment and future projects globally. This role is distinct from project management and focuses on ensuring engineering integrity, technical excellence, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards across design, construction, installation, commissioning, and operational handover.
The Engineering Manager will work closely with the CTO/Engineering Director and will be responsible for ensuring that the engineering scope of CPE’s ecoPlants meets all performance, safety, and environmental standards. This position is integral to ensuring that all engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation, process engineering) align with best practices and regulatory requirements while delivering optimal plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership & Technical Oversight
* Oversee engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, control & instrumentation) to ensure technical integrity and design optimization for the ecoPlants.
* Validate and as required, approve engineering designs, specifications, calculations, documentations and deliverables from internal teams and EPC/EPCM contractors.
* Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ASME, API, IEC, ISO, NEC, US OSHA, UK NEBOSH, UK/EU standards).
* Manage and coordinate engineering studies, front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed engineering, and process safety analysis.
2. Engineering Execution & Collaboration
* Act as the technical authority throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that engineering solutions align with operational, environmental, and safety objectives.
* Provide technical support and leadership in the selection, procurement, and integration of key process solutions, working with inhouse engineers, vendors, suppliers and contractors.
* Ensure coordination between engineering disciplines, resolving technical conflicts and ensuring alignment with CPE’s technical objectives.
* Oversee equipment and material selection, ensuring they meet required standards, specifications, and long-term reliability.
3. Engineering Risk Management & Compliance
* Ensure adherence to process safety management (PSM) requirements, including HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, and SIL studies.
* Conduct risk assessments related to engineering design, construction, and commissioning.
* Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability targets in all engineering decisions.
* Work with regulatory bodies and third-party inspectors to secure necessary permits and approvals.
4. Construction & Commissioning Engineering Support
* Oversee engineering aspects of construction, installation, and commissioning to ensure designs are correctly implemented in the field.
* Resolve site engineering issues by providing technical support to the Project Manager and construction teams.
* Conduct and approve factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) for critical equipment.
* Ensure that commissioning activities align with the intended plant performance, operational safety, and environmental compliance.
5. Engineering Documentation & Process Optimization
* Develop and manage engineering standards, procedures, and guidelines to ensure best practices are implemented across all CPE projects.
* Lead the development of as-built documentation, ensuring records are accurate and available for operations teams.
* Work with R&D and technology teams to integrate innovations into ecoPlant designs.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives for future plant designs and operational enhancements.
Other responsibilities relevant to the role may be required to be executed as may be required by the Company.
