Job overview
Staff who work on inpatient mental health wards experience violence, verbal abuse and see patients harming themselves. They also hear about child abuse that patients have experienced in the past. Together, these experiences are known as ‘workplace trauma.’ The Workplace Trauma project is an NIHR grant exploring the effect of a workplace trauma support intervention on staff working on acute mental health wards. It is a collaboration between Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust and the University of Manchester. The project’s Lead Investigator is Professor Katherine Berry.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work alongside colleagues at the University of Manchester and Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust on a research project to explore the effects of workplace trauma on staff working on acute mental health wards. The post holder will work with other researchers to carry out interviews with staff members on acute mental health wards across the UK about their experiences of workplace trauma support interventions. The post holder will also be involved in qualitative data analysis and report writing. They may be required to assist with other activities, such as engagement and consultation with stakeholders and dissemination of research findings.

Person specification
Education
* Good Honours Degree in a related subject (2:1 or above)
* Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
* Doctoral degree (completed or submitted) in a health / mental health related subject
Experience
* Experience of conducting qualitative research in mental health settings (conducting individual or focus group interviews, transcription of interview data, analysis or coding of data e.g. NVivo and writing up) for stand-alone study, such as a Masters or PhD thesis or part of a funded study/trial
* Experience of thematic analysis, framework analysis or other relevant methodology
* Experience of conducting a systematic literature review including experience of using quality appraisal tools
* Experience of data management and adherence to study protocols including lone working
* Experience of dissemination (i.e., publication of research papers or presentation at conferences)
* Experience of conducting research in a mental health sample
* Experience of recruiting research participants from diverse communities that are often under-represented in research, such as Black, Asian and other diverse ethnic communities
* Experience of working with colleagues in NHS settings
* Experience of qualitative research within trials of complex psychological interventions
* Experience of conducting PPI and public engagement activities
* Experience of working on qualitative data analysis informed by Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research
