Our busy Ambulatory Care Unit is an innovative way of providing a safe, patient focused, flexible same day emergency service for appropriate patients. The service aims to prevent unnecessary hospital admission and provide a better patient's experience.
Our Ambulatory Care Unit (AECU) offers easy access to early diagnostic tests, specialist staff, and review by a hospital consultant in one place. We are looking for an exceptional, committed, caring and compassionate Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dedicated multi-disciplinary team.
The successful applicant will be forward thinking, pro-active and motivated to assist in providing the highest standard of care to our patients whilst treating our patients with dignity, compassion and respect.
You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work within the AECU team.
Main duties of the job
1. Assess, investigate and treat patients within the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit.
2. Provide advice and support to other members of the team to ensure appropriate assessment, planning and implementation of clinical care.
3. Carry out specialist clinical procedures within clinical competence.
4. Lead and monitor the performance & standards of care within the nursing team with Unit Managers to facilitate the development of the service and personal development of all staff within the clinical area of nursing/clinical care.
5. Deputise for the Ward Matrons in their absence, attending appropriate meetings, maintaining an organised and structured workforce.
6. Receive & triage calls from GP Primary care and Emergency Department referrals making daily decisions with guidance from lead Consultant.
7. Implement clinical care including drug administration (oral and intravenous), venepuncture, cannulation, drain and suture removal, assisting in pleural drain, ascitic drain insertions, lumbar puncture, leg dressings, catheter insertions, ECG, and vital signs recording with NEWS/MEOWS application.
8. Ensure effective patient flow in the department.
9. Communicate and liaise with MDT, specialties, and facilitate appropriate referrals.
10. Support Ward managers, Junior staff, and students in maintaining high standards of service.
11. Facilitate clinic activities for DVT, Pleural, Lumbar Puncture, and Ascitic Drains.

1. Current first or second level NMC Registration.
2. Completed Nursing degree or working towards.
3. Portfolio of evidence demonstrating continuous personal, professional, and academic development at the level of advanced nursing practice.

2. Advanced Life Support provider.
Experience
Essential
1. Significant experience of working in Emergency Care (e.g., Emergency Department/Acute Medicine or Surgical Assessment).
2. Evidence of up-to-date standards of clinical practice.

4. Experience of coordinating a ward/department and leading a team.
