Numatic International delivers professional, practical and reliable cleaning equipment and appliances, designed, engineered, and made right here in the UK! Due to business growth and product expansion, we are seeking experienced Product Design Engineers to join our Research and Development Team.
You will study, research, design and develop ideas for new products and the systems used to make them, as well as modify existing products to increase efficiency or improve performance. Our R&D team are a fast-paced team that are constantly updating and working with new technologies to ensure our products are up to date and offer the best solutions possible to our diverse customer base. Our site is located in Chard, on the Somerset, Devon, and Dorset borders, which offers a semi-rural lifestyle, access within 20 minutes to stunning coastal shorelines, and quick links to major towns and cities
This candidate will have a strong ability to take client ideas and create an attractive product based on their needs. This candidate should feel comfortable creating prototypes and communicating with internal teams in order to deliver wholesome solutions. The candidate should also have an ability to follow budget constraints and demonstrate some pieces of previous works through a portfolio.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide significant design and engineering input into all aspects of design work that falls within your area of expertise
• Create detailed designs for the creation of new and existing Numatic products
• Take full part in the development and improvement of the R&D department - be that organisational, team, or individual, and fully support any continuous improvement activities.
• Represent Numatic at meetings with other internal and external stakeholders, to ensure that the interests of the Company and the department are represented.
• Ensure all changes to process, methodology, environment, practice, that are put in place within the department are fully implemented and adhered to in a positive and supportive manner.
• Ensure that attention to detail, rectification of design error, and cost control, are considerations that you have at the forefront of your mind when engaged on design work.
• Be involved in Business improvement projects.
ABOUT YOU :
• Must have a minimum of 2 years employment history in a similar role.
• Excellent knowledge (degree or other appropriate qualification essential) in required area of design expertise.
• Extensive use of CAD modelling software appropriate to area of expertise and of document control.
• Good appreciation of loads and forces acting within components and complex assemblies.
• Demonstrable experience of design work in product development from concept to production.
• Demonstrable experience of component or system modification.
• Plastic injection moulding and/or sheet metalwork, fabricated assemblies, rotational moulding.
• Good understanding of a range of manufacturing processes and construction methods
• Competent at producing Engineering drawings and schemes.
• Experience in design for low-cost, high-volume manufacture, and design for low volume, high value product.
• Good hand modelmaking skills to demonstrate proof of principle models.
• A good appreciation of business demands.
• Experience interacting across departments and with outside suppliers.
