Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Scientist to join the team. The post holder is expected to be a postdoctoral scientist who will utilise their specialist expertise in genomics to plan, participate, and lead on genomic service development.
The focus of this post is to lead on developing high throughput pharmacogenomic testing to fulfil the national NHSE genomic test directory requirements.
This is a full-time, 18 month fixed term post based at the Liverpool site of the North West Genomic Laboratory Hub.
Main duties of the job
The role will include:
1. Evaluation of published developments and innovations and their transfer into clinical practice.
2. Project supervision including training staff, trainees, visitors and students.
3. Evaluation and implementation of new methods, technologies and equipment.
4. Verification and validation of new clinical diagnostic assays to a standard which permits their diagnostic application in both rare disease and cancer genomics.

Person specification
Qualifications
* BSc at least 2(i) in an appropriate scientific subject
* PhD in the field of genomics/genetics (or equivalent)
Knowledge and Skills
* Practical experience in relevant laboratory techniques and troubleshooting of assays
* Experience in research and development in a relevant field, including evidence of authorship or contribution to peer-reviewed publications
* Knowledge of principles of clinical laboratory genetics (in area of expertise)
* Able to critically analyse and interpret scientific data
* Able to concentrate at all times and work under pressure
* Excellent organisational and planning skills
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
* Knowledge of bioinformatics and analysis of complex genomic data
* Proven experience in the drafting and finalisation of complex protocol and report writing
* Experience in genomic assay validation and verification
* Experience in writing grants / research funding applications
* Knowledge and experience of supervision and management
* Knowledge and experience of LIMS and other laboratory IT systems
* Knowledge and experience of automation and robotic liquid handling
