The Governors of Newport High School are seeking to appoint a passionate and committed Family Liaison/Attendance Officer in a a Grant Funded role for one year, up until 03/03/2026, in the 1st instance.The candidate will be passionate, dedicated and driven and will hold a full driving licence as the role will take you out into the community to support families of students in supporting their attendance and wellbeing.Key Result Areas
1. To work with families identified through referral via weekly panel or AHT for pastoral and wellbeing
2. To identify, develop and provide individualise support to improve attendance. To have awareness of factors impacting on and issues facing vulnerable children and families (e.g. disadvantage, poverty, disability).
3. To lead and organise activities for families and students that will lead to improvements in their attendance.
4. Complete assessments with children, young people and their families/carers to inform what support is required.
5. Following assessment, determine the most appropriate way to support children and their families/carers be that through signposting to other services and/or providing tailored intervention programmes to achieve positive outcomes.
6. To liaise effectively with other professionals and colleagues in the statutory and voluntary sector.
7. As appropriate, write reports for and attend panels.
8. Deliver structured interventions in accordance with assessed needs which could include: educational support, attendance support, parenting programmes, linked to ASD and social, emotional, health or behavioural issues.
9. To work in partnership with children and parents/carers and to actively encourage children to participate fully in all decision-making processes which affect them.
10. To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures.11. To work in an integrated way with other service providers (e.g. Health, Social Services) to meet the needs of individuals and families.
12. To assist in the process of re-integrating children and young people educationally, socially and recreationally.
13. To encourage children and their families/carers to explore and evaluate the options available to them in the community.
14. To be responsible for case note recording, contributing to report writing and producing and keeping management information on school systems such as EduKey.
15. To contribute to school development and work within a school team to meet the aims and vision of the Cluster schools.
16. To support improved attendance and increase school engagement.
17. Where appropriate to Liaise with the school’s child protection officer
