Job Title: Senior Special Effects Technician
Location: London

Key Responsibilities:
1. Analyze scripts to determine required models and effects, including pyrotechnics, and collaborate with creative teams.
2. Suggest post-production and CGI alternatives when suitable.
3. Provide cost estimates and work within budgets.
4. Attend pre-production meetings, focusing on safety and technical requirements.
5. Assist in assembling and managing a team of Technicians.
6. Oversee the construction and execution of models and effects.
7. Coordinate safety protocols with relevant departments.
8. Liaise with department heads to ensure necessary props and costumes are available.
9. Ensure on-set coverage by a qualified deputy when needed.
10. Work with directors and other creatives to safely set up and execute effects shots.
11. Comply with HSE and COSHH regulations.
12. Train and mentor team members.
13. Maintain accurate work records and approve team outputs.
Pyrotechnics-Specific Responsibilities:
1. Follow regulations for handling, storage, and transport of pyrotechnics.
2. Stay familiar with pyrotechnic materials and equipment.
3. Strictly adhere to safety standards for pyrotechnic and fire effects.
4. Lead pyrotechnic operations in the absence of a Senior Designer.
Requirements:
Essential:
1. Full UK driving licence.
2. Proven experience as a senior technician in special effects.
3. Strong knowledge of materials, equipment, and SFX techniques.
4. Familiarity with safety protocols, post-production, and camera processes.
5. Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
1. Design-related qualification.
2. Experience with pyrotechnic and fire effects materials and equipment.
