Job overview
Applications are invited for a Glaucoma Fellow for a twelve-month post commencing from August/September 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ophthalmologist to broaden their training in modern techniques in Glaucoma surgery.
As well as working with the consultants in the glaucoma clinics, this fellowship is surgically intensive with at least two theatre lists. A high level of competence with routine cataract surgery is a fundamental requirement of the fellowship. Prior experience with glaucoma filtering surgery, glaucoma drainage devices, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) is preferable, but training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The clinical fellow will help support the busy Glaucoma service; working with the clinical lead for glaucoma to ensure patients referred to the service receive good quality care and treatment. The post holder will work alongside the lead consultant for glaucoma and will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and medical/laser management of patients attending glaucoma clinics and AES. This post includes training in all types of Glaucoma surgery.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is patient-centred to work in our multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists, orthoptists, optometrists, and a supportive nursing and technician team. The post holder will also be expected to participate in new and ongoing research projects.
Working for our organisation
Thank you for showing an interest in working with us at Epsom and St Helier - a family of more than 7,000 colleagues.
We are truly an integrated health and care Trust. This means that as well as the services we provide at our acute care hospitals (Epsom in Surrey and St Helier nearby in south-west London), we work with local GPs, mental health services, community providers, and local authorities, with the joint aim of preventing local people from becoming unwell, and when they do, that they receive the right care, in the right place, with the right support.
We also work as part of the St George's, Epsom and St Helier Hospital and Health Group, with a shared leadership and increasing collaboration to develop stronger clinical and corporate services between two major providers serving Surrey and South West London. Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey.
