We are recruiting to a band 5 Speech and Language Therapy role. The applicant will be responsible for a caseload of children in early years complex needs (nurseries/home visits) and in clinics with children with speech sound difficulties. This may include complex cases. The role involves independent assessment, diagnosis and treatment for the designated caseload which includes people from a wide range of social and ethnic backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Independent assessment of speech, language and communication needs in nurseries, at home and in community clinics.
2. Planning, implementing and evaluating treatment programmes, including enabling implementation by carers and support staff.
3. Dissemination of the results of assessments, difficult diagnoses and management of communication disability to parents, carers and other professionals in a sensitive and clear manner.
4. Counselling and advising parents and/or carers regarding the impact of the communication disorder and negotiate care packages, taking into account the individual’s needs and circumstances and encouraging users to follow the care plan.
5. Analysis of results of standardised and informal assessments of communication disorders, identifying strengths and needs in clients in order to plan treatment in partnership with service users, taking due regard for variations in cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
6. Rapid transcription of conversational speech and analyse the detail of speech sounds, grammar and prosody using highly developed auditory and perceptual skills.
