The Role…
The main purpose of the Workshop Supervisor/ Production controller is as follows;
1. Allocates, organises and manages the workshop activities for Howden products to provide a safe, efficient and effective service, meet the on-time delivery of material for internal & external customers by developing and maintaining production planning and control through the workshop.
2. Assist, in collaboration with HCO, general facilities management of the Northern Aftermarket Service Centre.
3. Provide and manage technical support services over a range of products to workshop staff, FS engineers and customers.
Who are we…
Due to growth of the Howden UK business & UK water market, in addition to incorporating our parent company Chart’s products into our UK service portfolio, we are opening a new facility based in Barlborough, near Sheffield.
Howden UK have been at the forefront of implementing service synergies, including working within the LNG industry, and being part of the drive to implement SDOX (a product from Chart Water). We have recently won business in the UK for cryogenic trailer repairs and overhauls so will be expanding the Howden UK organisation to establish ourselves in the market for service and repair of cryogenic trailers, ISO containers and packages gas units in the UK.
Within Chart Europe, we already have established businesses who manufacture, service and repair cryogenic trailers across our business locations in Czech, Germany, Italy and Sweden.
Barlborough will be the home of a larger Aftermarket Centre capable of executing the increased growth expected through 2025 and beyond. We are now recruiting a number of new roles to support the growth of cryogenic repairs and overhauls in the UK.
What will you do…
* Ensure that all workshop activities are carried out safely and that all EHS & Quality documentation is in place. Carry out site safety inspections (Visible Felt Leadership) to ensure compliance.
* Schedule internal and external activities to ensure on-time delivery of material to internal and external customers while following guidelines and standards.
* Issue and control of documentation to all internal and external orders to comply with Quality Management System.
* Lead, manage and motivate the workshop team to maximise personal contribution and support cost effective and efficient use of resource.
* Manage and direct the workshop team and be responsible for the output of workshop quality and efficiency, including allocating work to workshop staff in accordance with agreed production plans.
* Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with documented instructions, liaise with QC/QA when non-conformances arise.
* Ensure that all workers book their time to the correct job code and liaise with relevant project managers on budget and costs to ensure projects are kept within budget and margin targets.
* Liaise with Inspection personnel in monitoring quality standards.
* Through Daily Management, liaise with Project Managers, Field Service staff and Sales staff on upcoming and ongoing projects providing updates as required.
* Monitor and control subcontract labour carrying out works in the workshop or providing services to projects/ activities.
* Develop and increase departmental flexibility by conducting routine appraisals and training plans.
What do you bring…
* Must have served a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
* Level 3 Engineering qualification in engineering.
* IOSH Managing safely/ CCSNG Safety Passport.
* HNC/ HND in Mechanical Engineering
* Substantial practical experience of running a workshop environment.
* NEBOSH qualified
* Experience with compressors, fans, steam turbines or rotating equipment in general
* Safety Focused- driving safety within the teams always.
* People Management skills.
* Work Scheduling/Planning experience.
* Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications.
