Highway Design Engineer – Ipswich
Our client, a leading infrastructure company, is seeking a skilled Highway Design Engineer to join their dynamic team on the Suffolk Highways contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of Suffolk’s road network as part of a long-term contract running for up to 20 years.
The Role
As a Highway Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering innovative and sustainable design solutions to improve and maintain Suffolk’s highways. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will take projects from conception to completion, ensuring compliance with industry standards, budgets, and timeframes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop detailed design packages, technical reports, and project documentation.
* Conduct site visits and surveys to assess project requirements.
* Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure successful delivery.
* Ensure all designs comply with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including sub-consultants.
* Provide mentorship and support to junior engineers, graduates, and technicians.
* Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, clients, and project teams.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or significant experience working towards IEng/CEng.
* Strong background in highway design and construction.
* Experience working within local authority highway standards.
* Commercial awareness and understanding of cost control in project delivery.
* Knowledge of project programming tools such as ASTA.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant design software (e.g., drainage, alignment, and traffic signs).
* Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word.
* Full UK/EEC driving licence required.
