The Trust is pleased to offer this permanent Band 4 Behavioural Support Worker (Graduate Psychologist) post. The role involves working within an in-patient service, providing specialist assessment and treatment for people with Learning Disabilities and complex behavioural presentations, many of whom also have Autism Spectrum Conditions. The successful candidate will work full rotational shifts, including night shifts, and will support the implementation of positive behavioural support and individualised care programmes designed to maximise the client's social and psychological function.
Main duties of the job
The Behavioural Support Worker will work as part of a full multi-disciplinary team, with regular clinical supervision from a qualified Clinical Psychologist. The successful candidate will hold a BA or BSc degree in Psychology, meeting the graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society, and will have experience working with people with Learning Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), histories of trauma, and mental health issues.
This post requires the post holder to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and to be able to undertake required physical interventions as necessary.
Job responsibilities
1. To work with staff to develop methods of assessing and analysing behaviour.
2. To carry out direct observational recordings of clients' behaviour and present the results.
3. To contribute to person centred planning by assisting with assessment of skills, identification of needs, and monitoring.
4. To assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of positive behaviour support plans.
5. To demonstrate clinical change using appropriate clinical measures.
6. To undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of clients.
7. To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
8. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and assist in evidence-based practice.
9. To ensure that clients are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their care plans.
10. To maintain client dignity and privacy at all times.
11. To be responsible for the security and maintenance of equipment.
12. To give clients a choice in all decisions affecting their lives.
13. To participate and assist in the delivery of care/services to patients as part of a Mental Health and Social Care Health Service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* BA, BSc degree in Psychology which meets graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society.
* Previous relevant and practical experience.
Experience
* Experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Condition, Mental Health problems or similar client groups.
* Experience of applying the Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) model.
* An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to the clinical situation.
