About the Opportunity:
In order to support the growth of the Nuclear Assurance, Technology and Regulation business, Jacobs is seeking a skilled and experienced Nuclear Engineer to be based in our Bristol MoD Project Office.
As a Nuclear Engineer you will be working within an established yet growing team operating within Jacobs Consultancy & Defence Integrator Solutions Business, supporting the Ministry of Defence in the Nuclear Submarine Programme.
Role Responsibilities:
* To provide authoritative advice to MoD in support of their internal governance processes
* To act as a Subject Matter Expert in relevant technical areas, providing technical advice to MoD
* Representing Jacobs at external project and technical meetings with MoD and their contractors
* Representing the Bristol - Jacobs team at internal project, technical and safety meetings
* Identifying commercial opportunities for Jacobs and ensuring that appropriate follow-up actions are taken
* Maintaining and upholding Jacobs culture, codes of conduct and safety standards
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience within the naval nuclear propulsion programme and detailed knowledge of naval reactor plant or the UK Submarine Enterprise
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant science or engineering discipline
* Ability to work across a range of tasks and liaise with stakeholders at all levels
* Hold or be working towards Chartered status
* Flexibility with the ability to travel as the demands of the role dictates
* Working knowledge of Safety Case construct and production
* Working knowledge of UK Regulatory systems and the organisations involved
* Hold or be working towards an appropriate Project Management Qualification
This role is ideal for a confident and ambitious Engineer, several years into their career or a seasoned veteran. Flexibility is absolutely key to the role and you will have the opportunity to apply your skills in a variety of submarine related applications.
You will enjoy a considerable degree of autonomy and be expected to do the right thing both technically and behaviourally in terms of acting as an ambassador for the company on client premises. The role presents opportunities to develop “profile” and should be seen as providing a strong foundation for a rewarding career in the defence field or the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and skill base further.
This role will require security clearance, therefore applicants should be of UK Nationality, hold or be able to obtain security clearance in the UK.
