Main duties of the job

Work in different clinics in Dermatology as instructed/directed by registered nurse, carrying patient assessments, providing treatment and assisting in minor surgical procedures.

Job responsibilities
Maintain a professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with World Class Care values. To be responsible for designated aspects of nursing care for a defined group of patients under the direction of a registered nurse. Perform more complex elements of patient assessment from admission through to discharge. Plan and deliver high standards of care to individuals and groups of patients. (Under indirect supervision from the registered nurse). To demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team utilising sensitivity, empathy and ability to manage conflict. Contribute to effective discharge planning by ensuring patients have requisite knowledge of self-management prior to discharge. To keep nursing staff fully informed and to seek advice and support when indicated. To demonstrate initiative and the ability to recognise/identify changes in a patients condition/treatment and report promptly to the registered nurse and medical staff as appropriate. To liaise with relevant healthcare professionals/departments Inflammatory MDT, clinical psychologist, clinical scientists and the wider dermatology team and to keep registered designated nurse fully informed. To be able to undertake dermatologically appropriate disease severity scores including Psoriasis area severity index, DLQI, HADS, EASI scores. To perform, understand and report patient skin assessments to the registered nurse. Highlighting any cause of concern prior to administration of treatment. To perform additional tasks (as directed by nursing staff) following completion of relevant competencies/training. Report or escalate, any incidences- either clinical or non-clinical, to the registered nurse or Lead nurse. To understand the principles of the Friends and Family Test/Expedia patient feedback and how it is used to improve and maintain an excellent patient experience.
1. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
Contribute to the provision of a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients, relatives, friends and hospital visitors.
To ensure high standards of care are given to all patients, monitoring this through spot checks and clinical quality indicators outcome measures.
To contribute to patient and relative feedback by undertaking daily clinical rounds with the aim of providing excellent standards of care.
To collaborate in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence based care.
To ensure communication with patients and significant others is established, ensuring empathy and reassurance regarding, assessment, care and treatment.
To understand and support safeguarding principles for patients and escalate any concerns to the registered nurse.
To facilitate early discharge planning being carried out to enable appropriate arrangements to be in place for patients leaving hospital or transferring in order to achieve a safe and timely discharge from hospital.
To ensure that all patients are cared for in a clean and well-maintained clinical area, ensuring that all staff are aware that they are directly responsible for cleanliness standards when in charge and escalating issues when necessary.
