We have a new opportunity to be part of our Finance team in the role of Group Tax Accountant.
Responsibilities:
1. Corporation tax
o Full ownership and management of the group’s corporation tax compliance process.
o Proactive delivery of a best-in-class tax advisory service to the business.
o Close integration with the broader Finance team to ensure taxes are fully considered throughout key business decisions.
o Ownership of the capital allowances process, ensuring adequate analysis and documentary support is generated and maintained.
o Close collaboration with the Financial Accounting team and external auditors to support robust and accurate external tax reporting.
2. R&D tax credits
o Full ownership of the R&D tax credit claim process, being the lead contact for our external professional advisors.
o Proactive engagement with the business to ensure R&D tax credits are maximised within the legislative framework.
o Partnership with the business to ensure data is captured at source to support robust R&D tax credit submissions to HMRC.
o Close collaboration with Finance colleagues to ensure R&D tax credits are robustly forecast as part of the overall business budgeting, forecasting and planning cycle.
3. Withholding taxes
o Full ownership of the group’s global withholding tax process and obligations.
4. VAT
o Manage the end-to-end process and be the point of contact for the business for all aspects of VAT, both UK and overseas.
o Manage regulatory and reporting requirements to mitigate compliance risks and maximise cashflow.
o Drive recovery of global VAT to minimise the cost to the group.
o Maintain a technical expertise to ensure global VAT is managed efficiently but in compliance with laws in all relevant jurisdictions.
5. Import and export taxes and duties
o Develop robust processes to ensure imports and exports are handled in the most cost-effective and compliant manner.
o Engage with non-Finance colleagues to ensure import and export risks and opportunities are promptly identified and addressed.
6. Payroll taxes
o Support HR colleagues with payroll tax planning and compliance matters.
7. Group-wide
o Lead the group’s response to all HMRC inquiries and similar activities.
o Proactively identify and assess potential business impacts resulting from upcoming changes to tax legislation.
o Full ownership of all tax compliance matters across the group.
8. Business improvement and education
o Proactively assess and drive improvements to business processes across all taxes.
o Develop and deliver a plan to increase awareness and understanding across the wider business in relation to current tax risks and opportunities and upcoming changes to tax legislation.
o Assist the Group Financial Controller, and other members of the finance team, with ad-hoc requests as required.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Qualifications:
* CTA part-qualified minimum.
Experience:
* Experience in a similar role within a dynamic, fast-paced group environment.
* Corporate Tax and R&D tax credit experience.
* Experience of engaging and influencing senior stakeholders.
Knowledge and Skills:
* Broad technical understanding across the full range of UK taxes.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities and comfortable working with stakeholders of all levels.
* Numeracy and an eye for detail, capable of working quickly to a high standard of accuracy.
* Ability to communicate information effectively verbally and in writing with use of graphical tools as necessary.
* Expert in use of the Microsoft 365 suite of products.
* Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
* High integrity and accountability.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritising in an organised and accurate manner within tight deadlines, keeping calm and focused.
* Knowledge of working within professional accounting standards and legislation and their application.
* Enthusiastic and versatile and be able to build, develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues.
* Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, with multiple and changing priorities.
* A natural leader with the ability to inspire both direct reports and other stakeholders.
