As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Our Welder / Fabricator apprentices will be trained up to manufacture filter drum assemblies, utilising mid and tig welding and fabrication manufacturing to work within tight tolerances and deadlines for production requirements, with development towards full fabricator training working from technical drawings to build bespoke swarf management machines.
Responsibilities:
* Time keeping and attendance working 39 hours per week
* Work closely with fabrication supervisor to manufacture filter drum assemblies.
* Utilising skills developed to manufacture drums to the correct width and specification.
* Working to deadlines set by production requirements
* Being an active member of the fabrication team, developing skills and knowledge

* Work safely at all times, comply with health & safety legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.

* Obtain, check and use the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation).
* Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity.
* Undertake the work activity using the correct processes, procedures and equipment.
* Carry out the required checks (such as quality, compliance or testing) using the correct procedures, processes and/or equipment.
* Deal promptly and effectively with problems within the limits of their responsibility using approved diagnostic methods and techniques and report those which cannot be resolved to the appropriate personnel.
* Complete any required documentation using the defined recording systems at the appropriate stages of the work activity.
* Restore the work area on completion of the activity and where applicable return any resources and consumables to the appropriate location.
* Identify and follow correct Metal work instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
* Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques.
* Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products.
* Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements.

Your training plan
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN):
* Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.
* There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.
* Duration approximately 40-45 months.
* Years 1/2 is a combination of off the job training at HWGTA Training Centre as well as training on site with your employer. This includes 29-42 weeks within the training Centre plus 1 day per week in a classroom setting to cover practical and theory aspects and complete EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge
* Years 3/4 based full time in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Metal Fabricator Level 3 qualification.
