37.5 hours per week. We are seeking a highly motivated plumbing-based professional individual to assist a multi-skilled team of tradesmen in carrying out maintenance and working on buildings, building services, plant, and equipment within a range of healthcare buildings.
Working across our estate located in Plymouth and South West Devon, this role is primarily to undertake routine planned and reactive maintenance to the plumbed systems. You will be experienced in heating systems as well as hot and cold water systems, drainage, sanitary systems, etc., and will be flexible, applying your knowledge and experience to other healthcare-related equipment as and when the need arises.
You will also be required to work on your own after having gained experience of the sites.
Good communication skills and a willingness to undertake training are required. You must be numerate and literate, with good written skills.
You must be able to work overtime at short notice, if required, and have the ability to travel across Plymouth. This role involves participating in an on-call rota after successfully completing a 6-month probation.
Main duties of the job
To undertake maintenance and installation work for mechanical services and equipment. The post holder will be required to carry out routine maintenance and repair of a range of electro-mechanical equipment within Livewell Southwest hospitals, health centres, clinics, and administration buildings.
Including heating systems, plumbing, building management systems, motors and pumps, engineering plant, equipment, and processes.
To serve as part of the maintenance team to deliver high-quality care through effective and efficient operation and maintenance of all healthcare building services.
To comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Statutory legislation and seek to apply best working practices at all times.
Job responsibilities
* Undertake tasks appropriate to the Plumber's role as delegated by line management or helpdesk.
* The post holder will be expected to undertake routine maintenance and repair of a range of electro-mechanical equipment along with installation and upgrade and refurbishment of systems and services associated with a variety of systems and equipment including but not limited to:
o Heating systems including pump set/actuators.
o Hot and cold-water services including thermostatic mixing valves/strainers.
o Macerators
o Drainage systems
o Sanitary ware
o Catering water Boilers
* Advise the Line Manager of any problems or hazards likely to be encountered including existing installations that appear substandard or fail to meet current regulations as it becomes apparent.
* Isolate or make safe any installation that presents a danger to staff, visitors, or patients to ensure the highest levels of safety at all times.
* Undertake appropriate fault finding, investigation, and testing as appropriate to the work.
* Ascertain and obtain materials, equipment, and components that in your judgment represent value for money for the maintenance task. Keep accurate records of stock levels for stores.
* Undertake the work in a safe and workmanlike manner, within reasonable timescales.
* The position is likely to necessitate training either to keep up to date with new regulations or to implement safe systems of work.
* Liaise with contractors where they have been employed to work in conjunction with the work detailed to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experienced in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of plumbing and heating services.
* Familiarity with computerised Building Management Systems.
* Knowledge of the types of mechanical systems found within healthcare premises such as TMVs.
* Conversant with electrical isolation procedures.
* Previous experience of electrical controls associated with heating and domestic hot water systems.
* 2 years experience in the role within a healthcare environment.
* Ability to carry out all aspects of the role without additional supervision.
Knowledge
* Knowledge and training for the testing, repairs, and maintenance of hot and cold water services, heating, and associated systems.
* Knowledge of H&SaWA and its relevance to the role.
* Knowledge and understanding of building services/trades.
* Computer recording programmes pertinent to the role.
* Detailed knowledge of Estate and services.
* Good knowledge of the organisation structure.
* Level of understanding of other roles.
* Knowledge of HTM 04-01 safe water in healthcare premises.
* Knowledge of WRAS.
* Mechanical and Electrical craft knowledge.

Qualifications
* City and Guilds level 3 or above in plumbing and heating systems or other suitable mechanical/plumbing qualification.
* Must have served a recognised trade apprenticeship in a relevant plumbing role.
* Basic computer skills relevant to the job role.
* GCSE in maths and English at grade C (grade 4) or above (or equivalent).
* ONC or equivalent qualification in a relevant mechanical engineering subject.
* City & Guilds or equivalent in un-vented hot water storage systems.
* Health & Safety qualification.
* Trained First Aider at Work.
* 5 GCSEs at grade C (grade 4) or above (or equivalent).
* Confined spaces training.

£26,530 to £29,114 a year pro-rata + R&R £3277 + 4.5% On Call + payments when called out.
