Be Part of Our Housekeeping Team
You will be joining the housekeeping team at Powderham, responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, presentation, and overall upkeep of Powderham to ensure we achieve our objectives of becoming the premium heritage family destination in Devon. In order to achieve this, you will support the Housekeeping and wider Public Opening team to maintain facilities to a high standard, preparing spaces for visitors, events, and functions and contributing to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Powderham.
This role is essential in preserving the Castle’s unique heritage while supporting a memorable experience for all who visit. It’s an opportunity to work in a dynamic, historic setting where attention to detail and pride in your work makes all the difference. The ideal candidate will be environmentally aware and confident using non-toxic and sustainable products, with energy, enthusiasm, and a dedicated work ethic.
Housekeeping Assistant: Visitor Services Responsibilities
In this role, you will be a vital member of the Housekeeping team maintaining the front-facing visitor areas, including the Welcome Centre, Secret Garden, and Café. Your efforts will ensure these spaces are clean, welcoming, and leave a lasting positive impression on our visitors. The role may include direct visitor engagement and requires delivery of a ‘warm and friendly’ service while working with the Housekeeping team and House Manager to continuously improve the visitor experience.
General Duties
* Complete assigned daily cleaning schedule (task list) in all front-facing visitor areas, including (but not limited to):
* Secret Garden toilets
* Catering outlets floors and surfaces with a particular focus on public seating areas (excluding kitchen)
* Welcome centre surfaces, windows, doors, and floors
* Welcome centre toilets
* Courtyard toilets
* Bins emptying, cleaning, and litter picking
* Cleaning business offices including kitchen, meeting spaces, floors, bins, and toilets
* Access to estate vehicles to assist with movement around the site will be provided.
Qualifications and Prior Experience
No specific qualifications are required for this role. Previous experience in a housekeeping role would be advantageous, particularly within tourism, hospitality, or leisure environments.
