Working as part of Operations Management team the primary role of the Machine Shop Cell Leader is to act as the first line of management accountable for the safe and efficient operation of their Machine Shop, including managing a team of 22, including 16 Turners, 4 Dressers, 1 x Grinder, 1 x Marker Off and multiple apprentices. This includes but is not limited to, people management of the machine shop team when allocating daily tasks, ensuring team complying with schedules, managing performance and development issues, machine shop workflow, supporting capacity constraints as well as meticulously maintaining high standards and KPI’s at all times.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
On an ongoing basis, the cell leader must assume full responsibility and will be held accountable for the following:
* Maintaining a positive / safe working environment ensuring housekeeping is always kept at the highest of standards.
* Lead and manage daily toolbox talk meetings, communicating all key messages including but not limited to SQCDP and work priorities.
* Maintain / communicate machine shop performance and information boards to employees, colleagues, customers and other managers from across the organization.
* Drive positive KPI results, ensuring you hold true to our Celeros core values including always doing the right thing.
* Be responsible for and manage a proactive and sustainable 5s culture within the machine shop.
* Take a positive approach to coaching, developing and performance managing the team members as and when required.
* Ensure standard operating work procedures are always followed.
* Monitor / Control actual versus estimated operation times.
* Identify and implement operational improvements. Efficiency gains to be realized.
* Ensure productive work is allocated to team members in line with the schedule and overarching business plan / forecast.
* Liaise with appropriate support functions (engineering, inspection, planning, purchasing etc.) to resolve issues and any potential production constraints in a timely manner.
* Work closely with continuous improvement team to introduce improvement programs across area of responsibility.
* Ensure start / stop and break times are adhered to.
* Control of overtime working in line with production requirements.
* Ensure efficient material workflow within and between workstations.
* Ensure booking discipline is always maintained.
* Ensure self-inspection procedures are fully adhered to.
* Ensure end of line goods are high quality, raising any quality concerns as soon as possible.
* Deliver regular communications both formal and informal to team members.
* Liaise with appropriate support functions to resolve issues and potential production stops in a timely manner.
* Conduct periodic audits as required by EHS and Quality departments.
* Raise NCRs as and when required.
* Any other duties as deemed reasonable.
To carry out such additional duties as may become necessary from time to time to ensure the smooth running of the production of the company's products.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
As a People Manager responsible for the effective management of people you are accountable for:

* Where appropriate, helping your people broaden their network or identify more challenging or stretching roles or projects to support their career progression. Including internal and/or external training support if deemed beneficial for the individual and the business.
* With support and guidance from HR, create and maintain a robust competency matrix for the machine shop team along with training and development plans.
* Ensure training and development plans are actioned in a timely manner.
* With support from Machine Shop Manager and Head of Operations along with HR, create and maintain Succession Plans for the machine shop, identifying critical gaps.
* Knowing about the health and wellbeing support available and proactively offering appropriate advice and following up on this; Effectively manage sickness absence, following company policy and seeking guidance from HR when required.
* Understanding the performance and development planning process; supporting and managing your people through the process.
* Supporting your people throughout the year, through regular conversations, tracking progress against objectives and managing any performance issues.

* Having a strong range of skills to effectively manage the machine shop; for example, the layout, maintaining health & safety, Environment, Quality standards and the flow within the area.
* Time served machine operator / fitter or equivalent hands-on work experience in manufacturing environment
* Knowledge of Clyde Union products and components.
* Previous supervisory experience within a relevant manufacturing environment / industry.
