About the role
As the Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our organisation's financial health and operational efficiency. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the transactional finance team.
You will lead and mentor this team, promoting a high-performance culture and enabling the team to thrive in an evolving work environment. You will direct the accurate and timely delivery of historical financial reporting and maintain robust internal controls that are reviewed and tested regularly.
A key focus of the role is to drive continuous improvement in processes and to ensure that systems and technology are being utilised as effectively and efficiently as possible, with input and support from other areas of the business including the CIO and team.
What you will be doing
* Managing the day-to-day financial transactional operations of the business, with support from the Accounts Payable team and Accounts Receivable team, to cover:
o Processing and reconciliation of supplier invoices
o Creation and issue of customer invoices and addressing of queries
o Cash management and setup of payments (including VAT)
o Credit control and escalations
o Payroll processing
o Sales order processing management
* Line management of the transactional finance team leads.
* Ensuring that proper accounting records are maintained such that information can be efficiently accessed.
* Ensuring that systems are used to promote efficiency and that processes are as streamlined as possible whilst maintaining suitable controls.
* Lead on the preparation of historical finance materials required for the monthly Board report and ensure that the month-end timeline is met.
* Lead the preparation and supply of materials for the annual audit.
You will suit the role if you have
* A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and a strong understanding of UK GAAP, IFRS, and other relevant accounting standards.
* Excellent organisation and time-management skills with a high attention to detail to ensure that accurate schedules are prepared on time.
* Outstanding collaborative communication skills.
* Strong management and motivational skills to support team growth. Ability to delegate effectively while ensuring accuracy and accountability.
* Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs or regulatory landscapes. Resilience to handle challenges and maintain focus under pressure.

Salary
£45,000 to £55,000 per annum (depending on experience).

Location and Working Arrangements
You will be based at Aspire’s Gateshead Head Office.
Hours of Work
Full time (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday.
