We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Policy and Strategy Lead to support the Chief Executive and Corporate Leadership Team in driving Cherwell District Council's strategic objectives and advising on and responding to central government initiatives.
The Job
This pivotal role involves shaping and influencing the Council's approach to external policy, preparing for devolution, local government reform and responding to central government initiatives. You will lead research and data analysis to inform decision-making and develop strategies aligned with corporate priorities, and provide expert advice on policy.
Working collaboratively across service teams and with external partners, you will ensure Cherwell is well-positioned to achieve its policy goals. Key responsibilities include preparing briefings, developing strategic plans, delivering reports, and fostering innovation and partnership opportunities to enhance service delivery. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to drive meaningful change and make a significant impact at both local and regional levels.
The Person
We’re looking for an ambitious and highly motivated individual with good political antennae and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of senior leaders.
1. You’ll have strong experience of developing and delivering policy at a senior level.
2. You’ll be adept at analysing complex problems and diverse information to produce compelling arguments.
3. You’ll have excellent oral and written communication skills. You’ll be able to work independently and confidently represent Cherwell District Council to our members and external audiences.
4. Experience of working in local government isn’t essential but you’ll be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the policy and delivery priorities for district and unitary councils.
