An established modular business is looking to recruit a Design Manager. The role will be based in their Cambridge office.
The role:
1. To ensure products and projects are designed and built to conform to all client and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintain and design processes in line with company QA systems.
3. Manage the hire enquiries and projects using own and pooled resources.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage all the production design workload.
2. Manage all outsourced design teams effectively.
3. Prioritise and programme workload in line with project programmes.
4. Ensure all tenders/quotations have full design appraisal.
5. Design processes and procedures to be followed.
6. Ensure deadlines are met for each project to an agreed quality level and on time in full.
7. Develop and find new materials when required that add to our product offerings.
8. Assist in reviewing Pdoc/CP's and drawings to ensure all are correct.
9. Design role in support, development and product cost reduction for PP IBS.
10. Attend factory project launch meetings.
11. Send out project drawings to relevant sub-contractors for quoting and pass on to operations to raise the order in a timely manner.
12. Ensure buildings comply with current building regulations and other statutory requirements (including building bulletin for schools, HTM's for health care and codes of practice etc) where required.
13. Attend launch meetings with hire and production teams internally.
14. Liaise with clients (either by telephone/site visits etc) and other internal staff as appropriate on queries relating to drawings/production details etc.
15. Prepare production drawing and design information (site fix lists, details etc) for issue to production departments.
16. Liaise with external sub-contractors on designs and provide technical assistance where required to resolve any potential conflicts to ensure that their works are compatible with our buildings.
17. Liaise with Local Authorities / architects / clients etc in order to obtain Building Regulation & Planning approval for schemes where necessary.
18. Prepare drawings and technical information for hire sales managers, production drawings for issue to the factory and site details for our operations teams (site installation) by using AutoCAD and Revit to produce accurate, high quality plan drawing/elevations/specifications etc, where possible providing these solutions utilizing either buildings or units from our existing hire fleet to meet the clients' requirements.

4. Gather quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers.
5. Negotiate improved supplier prices.
6. Assess the levels of risk on a project.
7. Prepare and submit quotations for work.
The Person:
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
1. Design management experience.
2. AutoCAD experience.
3. Commercially aware.
4. Modular build and traditional build knowledge essential.
5. Good communication skills.
6. Modular/Timberframe/SIP Panel experience.
