Job Title: School Bursar
Hours of Post: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday
(working pattern to be negotiated)
Contract Type: Permanent, Term Time only
Salary Grade: NJC SO1, point 23 - £33,366 FTE
(salary will be pro rata to part time, term time hours)
Start Date of Post: 1st September 2025
We are looking to appoint an experienced and skilled Bursar, who is highly organised and prides themselves on meticulous attention to detail to work under the direction of the current School Business Manager. The successful candidate will join an effective and supportive administration team. The post holder will have gained, or is working towards, the Level 4 Business Administration qualification. The successful candidate will have excellent literacy and numeracy skills. Experience in an education setting and a working knowledge of SIMS.net and FMS is essential.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the financial management of the school, including budget planning, monitoring, and reporting.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the school, including HR, facilities, and health and safety.
Liaise with the School Business Manager, Head Teacher and Governors to support school strategy and operational decisions.
Ensure compliance with all legal, financial, and regulatory requirements.
Lead on procurement, including managing contracts and suppliers.
Support with fundraising and income generation where appropriate.
Work closely with the School Business Manager and Head Teacher to support school improvement planning and resource allocation.
The ideal candidate will have:
Proven experience in school business management, or a similar role.
Strong financial and budgeting skills, with the ability to manage resources efficiently.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
Experience in managing HR, facilities, and compliance issues.
Knowledge of school funding and financial regulations.
A positive and friendly attitude, able to build good relationships with staff, parents and the stakeholders.
