About the Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Pre-Press Operator to join our busy team. This is a technical role (not a graphic design position) that plays a key part in preparing artwork files for print. A strong eye for detail and a proactive approach are essential.
You’ll be responsible for checking and preparing files supplied by clients, ensuring they meet the necessary standards for print. You’ll also support across pre-press and production to help keep everything running smoothly. We value continuous learning, shared knowledge, and team spirit—so if you’re passionate about developing your skills, you’ll fit right in.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Press Operations
1. Check customer-supplied artwork files for print-readiness
2. Prepare, step, plan, and output jobs to digital and flexographic presses
3. Ensure files meet requirements: correct dimensions, bleed, fonts, colours, trapping, and margins
4. Add print control marks and registration marks
5. Output internal and customer proofs
6. Operate and maintain pre-press software and equipment
7. Review daily job schedules to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
8. Complete required checklists accurately and report any discrepancies
9. Liaise with Customer Services, Production, and occasionally clients
10. Collaborate in production meetings and improvement initiatives
Production Support
1. Assist in prepping flexographic presses for upcoming jobs
2. Retrieve and prepare plates, cutters, ink trays, and materials
3. Clean and maintain printing plates, trays, and anilox rollers
4. Cut blades and manage ink supply
5. Keep the print environment clean and organised
What We’re Looking For
1. Experience in label printing (flexographic and digital)
2. Understanding of label die cutting, stepping, laydowns, grips, bleed, and trapping
3. Solid colour management knowledge and ability to assess press proofs
4. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
5. Proficiency with imposition and native PDF editor software (e.g., Packz, Esko – highly desirable)
6. Familiarity with HP Indigo DFE – a bonus
7. Team player with a can-do attitude and an eye for improvement
