Job overview
An opportunity is available for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Sonographer to join the team.
You will scan and report independently on obstetrics, gynecology, and abdominal ultrasound examinations to agreed protocols and standards. Expertise in small parts and/or vascular ultrasound would also be an advantage. Consideration will also be given to sonographers specializing in just obstetrics and gynecology. You will need to be a qualified sonographer holding a DMU or Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound, or equivalent, with appropriate registration (HCPC if a radiographer). A significant amount of experience would be ideal, including training ultrasound students. However, newly qualified staff will also be considered at an appropriate pay band.
Main duties of the job
* To carry out obstetric, gynaecological (including trans-vaginal scanning), abdominal, and vascular ultrasound examinations to agreed protocols and standards. To provide written reports after synthesising patient history and scan findings into a diagnosis.
* To seek second opinion where necessary.
* Accountable for own professional actions and decision making when acting within clinical protocols.
* Communicating scan results to patients verbally as appropriate. This may be unwelcome and sometimes upsetting news; sometimes inconclusive results requiring explanation of how they may be interpreted (frequent emotional effort often resulting from mainly failing obstetric cases).
* Communicating scan results to the referrer with the appropriate degree of urgency – patient management being dependent upon the examination findings (requiring extreme and continued concentration).
* Providing a very high standard of patient care at all times, referring patients for timely management.
