This is a new post which has been created following service reconfiguration. It is community-based split post with 4 days in Access to wellbeing team (Mon-Wed & Fri) and 1 day in HBT & Crisis team (Thursday). In each service, the speciality doctor will be working alongside a consultant psychiatrist.
The Access to Mental Wellbeing Service is a gateway into secondary mental health services covering the York & Selby area reaching as far afield as Pocklington in the East, Easingwold in the North. The service receives referrals from Primary Care, Social Care, Police, and internal teams such as Psychiatry Liaison and Crisis Teams. The service offers a Brief Intervention pathway for a range of common mental health difficulties to reduce the requirement for secondary care intervention. The service works closely with NHS Talking Therapies and First Contact Mental Health Workers based in GP Practices. In addition to this, the service has close links with VCSE services in the local area and LA Safeguarding Services.
The team is multi-disciplinary, working with people aged 18-65 years within the York and Selby location. It utilises the expertise of doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, and support workers. The post also accommodates a core or GP trainee and a Higher trainee post.
Main duties of the job
It is the expectation that the post-holder will provide senior leadership and oversight to the learning and development needs of the wider team. The post is a split post jointly based at Huntington House & Foss Park Hospital. The post-holder will have access to office space at both sites, as well as the option of hot desk working in the shared team office.
In addition to the core team of staff listed above, there is an expectation for the post holder to support medical students, postgraduate doctors, and students of other disciplines on rotation with the team.
As a senior medic within the team, it is the expectation that the post holder will:
1. Offer senior advice and support in the assessment, formulation, diagnosis and management of presenting conditions.
2. Support the team and other prescribers to make safe and effective prescribing decisions.
3. Take part in morning huddle meetings with the team as well as attending MDT meetings, professionals meetings, and the team leadership meeting.
4. Take part in and provide insight and direction into complex case work, contributing to the overarching formulation of patient care and planning within the scope of Multi-disciplinary Team approach.
5. Join the wider team in providing relevant teaching and training when required.
6. When section 12 approved, participate in Mental health Legislation work such as carrying out Mental Health Act Assessments.
