A unique opportunity to join our dedicated Youth and Education Team supporting young people to build an understanding of social justice issues and make a positive difference in their community. Our Youth and Education programs provide valuable educational support, whilst also fostering a sense of community, belonging, and fun. Our programs are student-centred and strengths-based, using trauma-informed practice and growth mindset as frameworks.
About us
The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP) Victoria provides support to people across the state, primarily in the areas of homelessness, food insecurity, and cost-of-living. We address suffering, advocating against inequality, and promoting human dignity and self-determination. The Youth and Education Team provide guidance and educational support, fostering a sense of community and encouraging students to tackle real world issues to affect positive change.
The Role
Working within the Youth and Education Team, you will build a vibrant and active base of Youth involvement across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. You will provide support to participants in our school-based programs, and also work to engage tertiary age students in social justice and volunteering opportunities. The core work of the Youth Engagement Officer is to respond to the needs of young people involved in our programs, build their leadership capacity, and support them to deliver Good Works in their local communities.
As a Youth Engagement Officer you undertake administrative activities to facilitate programs and support school staff in providing meaningful engagement opportunities. This will include developing student resources, delivering presentations and workshops, and supporting schools in organising fundraising and social justice activities. You will also be involved in organising and facilitating Youth events.
This is an exciting opportunity which will allow you to showcase your communication skills, build relationships with a range of different stakeholders, and contribute to meaningful community outcomes.
About you
Calling on your experience working with young people in an education context, you will create a learning environment that fuels a passion for social justice. You will have a growth mindset and be open to new and innovative approaches based on sound educational principles. You will be a highly organised, independent thinker who brings a proactive and supportive approach to the team. You will be an authentic leader who thrives on creating engaging learning experiences for students and volunteers alike.
More Specifically You Will Have :
* Tertiary qualification in education, community development or relevant field, or relevant experience
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder relationship skills
* Experience in:
* working with school age children, ideally in an education setting
* working with volunteers (advantageous but not a requirement)
* Planning and preparing lessons for education settings
* Experience coordinating projects
* Experience in public speaking and/or facilitating training
* Current driver’s licence and ability to travel as required
* Ability to work independently, with strong organisational and time management skills, including setting priorities and working within deadlines
* Knowledge about, and experience working with young people, and families from CALD communities or those learning English as an Additional language (EAL)
